What you posted in your diagram is correct for the cable socket.
The opposite layout (in the link) is for the motherboard header, viewed from above. Edit: The broken pin is Pin 42, as I said at the start. |

cheers prowler. What Im doing is taking Pin 20 out of the Motherboard and inserting it into the one thats broke. I think my second illustratioin is correct when going on this assumption? (please say yes! hehe)

Yes, your second illustration is correct.
![]() All your work needs to be done on the row of pins nearer to the edge of the motherboard, i.e. the top row in your photos (Pin 20 is near the middle of the row; Pin 42 is next to the rightmost pin). |

Well shiver me timbers - Iv only gone and done it! Made a right hash of removing the small part of the broken pin. Went through a cycle of adding more solder in order to remove what was there. (i find it easier if i have a big glob to remove) Didnt realise at the time that some of the broken pin was visible on the other side :/
Ended up joining the solder of the pin next to it and to be honest i doubt it was going to actually work. But fired up the A1200 and thankfully the HD still works (phew) but Im getting a purple screen. Although its too late now to continue...so gonna have a cuppa and look at it during the week. Really pleased the HD isnt knackered though and more pleased that iv fixed that Pin. Maybe it was purple cause the keyboard wasnt in and the floppy drive wasnt connected...or maybe Iv got power to the HD but messed some pin next to it. :/ Last edited by SteveE; 14 February 2011 at 01:06. |

Remove the solder joint right now, pulling vcc (+5v in this case) to other lines can be very harmful, especially if it gets pulled to ground without any resistance.
Also, an Amiga should boot just fine without a keyboard and without any floppy drive, it just might take a long time before the kickstart screen appears. |

You mean remove the solder thats linking the +5 to the other one? I did try and do this but unsure if I succeeded...however with me jabbing away with the soldering iron did make this area of the green motherboard very light due to the heat. Maybe this cause it too? Unsure.

Yes, remove the +5v that got linked with the other one. It doesn't look dangerous to to the eye (well for geeks it does), but it can actually make things more broken on your motherboard.
