Sounds like a disk error to me, and that rainbow effect is the end result when the disk has attempted its X retries and then quits

It may work if you first boot without startup-sequence and disable all unnecessary volumes and run relokick or similar program directly from dos to load ks. 1.3. But it may be difficult without hard drive.
I have been playing Speedball 2 this way in my A600 and it works, but there may be some sounds which don't anymore work.
