On AROS x86 and OS4 there is a tools called Icon Editor, which allows you to extract the 2 PNG images (from DualPNG icons), Create new ion is add Glow.
Icon Editor also exists for OS3, but it is not anciently distributed at the moment. Icon Editor is fast and qualitative, the version installed on AROS One x86 can also be started from ISO on Virtual Machine, or from DVD Live or Pendrive Live at PC. AROS One live starts in seconds, I attach a small Tutorial showing the ease of use by Icon Editor. [ Show youtube player ] Last edited by AMIGASYSTEM; 25 October 2022 at 18:23. |

It definitely works - I tested it before posting the link...
Did you select the July 25th 2013 snapshot? There is a newer version available with the Amega One source code: https://sourceforge.net/p/amega1/cod...ImageConverter But it requires ab3support.library: https://sourceforge.net/p/amega1/cod...upport.library It is available as part of AmiKIT. Yes I know it is on Amikit, but Amikit is not distributed for free. I however as a betatester, I also have a more up-to-date OS3 copy of Amikit. Last edited by AMIGASYSTEM; 25 October 2022 at 18:09. |

Yes the best solution is a Virtual Machine, best if you use WMware, HERE you will find a video tutorial showing how to install it quickly. With Virtual Machine AROS One x86 installs in minutes and is super fast, the system boots in seconds. If finished installation AROS One, Icon Editor does not work, copy these fixed libraries eand restart sistem, path to copy files LIBS/Hollywood http://archives.aros-exec.org/?funct...ebar-26.22.lha Last edited by AMIGASYSTEM; 25 October 2022 at 18:34. |

For OS4.1 Users I have created Drawer and Binary icons, for some old Amiga games, I will probably make some more in the future.
These Icons are in the native OS 4.1 format (Power Icons), in the future they will be created in DualPNG for AROS and OS3. Download Icons Games Drawer/Binary: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CSK...usp=share_link Last edited by AMIGASYSTEM; 18 April 2023 at 22:19. |

Thanks a lot James for your incredible cool icon collections. I always wonder how much time icon designers spend to create all these excellent looking icons. I was never able to do anything like that, maybe just caused by a lag of ambition, a little bit of skill and talent, but mostly because I'm always too lazy to be creative in any way.
In case that you've done the glow effects with ImageConverter by Thilo Koehler, what are your arguments and parameters for ImageConverter to generate the second icon images with the glow or what did you do with IconEditor? Last edited by PeterK; 07 July 2024 at 01:58. |

Hi PeterK, thanks for your kind comments, I'm not in the same league as people like Ken and Mason. I mostly use ImageConverter for grabbing images from icons these days. I used to use it to add a glow with my IconMaker script settings, but the results were not fully satisfactory. Some of the older drawers in the KensV4Style archive still feature this glow around the small images added to the drawer (e.g the Cube drawer) - scaled down the differences are not quite so obvious, although some of those icons still need improvement. To get the correct looking glow (and shadow for the first images) I have to use Kens icons as templates and merge the images. This is easy for square images, circles are a bit problematic because no two are quite the same, and I have had to build new templates from multiple icon parts for my wider icons. Once you have a big collection of templates everything becomes quicker and easier. IconEditor makes adding shadows and glows very easy but they don't match Kens icons 100%. Once you have a suitable image you can build a DualPNG glowicon in IconEditor in about a minute. I tend to go this route when building a Ken style template would be difficult and tedious because I'm lazy too. ![]() This is why you will find a wider variety of shapes in the Almost icon collection. |

Thanks for explaining your working method. So, the trick is to create a collection of templates for the glow effects and then merge them with the images in IconEdit.
20-25 years ago I often used the last PaintShopPro 8.x vom Jasc (before Corel later made a muck of it) on Windows for editing images. PSP had a lot of nice functions and filters for many special effects to modify images without requiring too much resources. Unfortunately, I've never seen an image processing program like that for the Amiga. Some can do this, others are better for that, but I never found the perfect program for image editing. |

Same here, I mostly use ArtEffect, but for some jobs I need to use Photogenics or GIMP.
