Hey, I have some exciting(?) news - I recently got a boxed NTSC copy of Street Fighter II and was also hit with the unknown disk version error. I submitted a report on whdload.de but have since found this thread, so I thought I would mention it here as well. I've already imaged the disks and would be happy to provide any info needed to have them included.

but three versions?
Guessing the Dev only tested it on a K1.3 A500 and not a K2+ A3000/030.

Also I had to swap my Amiga with cousin to play this game as my Amiga couldn't display the graphics to this game or Atom Smasher on the Amiga Power coverdisk. Alien^3 and Arabian Nights worked tho.

Seems I've found another unsupported version

It's the same Rainbird/zzkj + Copylock version as already supported by CFOU! but this one still gives the 'Unknown disk version!' message?

When dumping, Disks 2 to 4 have lots of tracks showing missing sectors like this track:

01.0 : AmigaDOS: <error>, trk: 002, sec: 11, mis: 10

Disk-Utilities shows warnings for those tracks but creates working IPF's, so is this yet another unsupported version? Have uploaded all 4 CT RAW files to The Zone to check if they are unsupported before making a Mantis entry!

Let me check this !

Please send me the heavy dump of this version Barry. First of all disk 1 differs from the version i saw until now.

Disk 1 has the program write on side 0, and side 1 only has the copylock in track 0.1.

Seems that you finally found the version that my friend had back in the day

I was right. This is the version my friend had for Xmas 1992, when his parents bought him Street Fighter 2 for Amiga.

This version is release 0, the very first one sold in shop when the game was released.

The delicaties proposed :

- First of all, The game use 2x Custom MFM formats :

- Disk 1 use the DMS, Digital Magic sync 4489 format
- Disk 2,3,4 use the ZZKJ, Rainbird 4489 format

The difference is content based, disk 1 content differs from other versions, but also the data spanned on disk 2,3,4. I did a check between others versions, those are different. This is why unless CFOU! add this new version, the whdload installer won't recognize it.

- The Disk 1 side 1 has a copylock, and track 1.1 to 79.1 are empty, and the program is spanned on side 0.

- The particularity is related to the copylock :

It is not only tested per disk changed, it is also tested one time per Character + Stage loading (Up to 3 copylocks check !)
ex : You choose a character for which the disk inserted is not the right one, once changed, the game checks the copylock. Then, it checks it a second time once the character has loaded. Then another disk is requested for the enemy character, and its stage, and BAM! you're in for a third copylock check.

- Disk 4 is duplicated with long tracks when disk 1,2,3 have normal sized tracks.

Disk 3 requires cleaning, Disk 4 a bit too.

EDIT : Disk 3 dirty tracks leads to Guile Stage & animations corrupted, and Vega sprite is corrupted.

Wow, that's a bit overkill on the copylock check!

What about those tracks with only 1 ADOS sector, they look like they should be MFM like the rest of the track, are they actually used?

Also, Rainbird MFM must be very similar to Digital Magic as Disk-Utilities creates a working IPF if Rainbird MFM is used for Disk 1. It also identifies Track 78.1 on Disk 4 as DMS!

Disk 3 shows shorter tracks for me on both my Sony / Panasonic dumps!

You remember that you sent me a previous SF2 set right ?

Basically, this set is fully ZZKJ-Rainbird format sync $4489 on the 4 disks.

This new set has disk 1 with DMS magic $4489, and ZZKJ-Rainbird $4489 on disks 2,3,4.

I'm refactoring and sending back to you each version properly documented.

Yes, one set with Rainbird/ZZKJ MFM but this new set works if either Rainbird or DMS MFM is used on Disk 1

How queer!

Strange, had an email from mantis saying "supported by v1.6 soon released" and the issue closed, but looking on WHDLOAD there is no v1.6 but a v2.0.

v2.0 doesn't recognise my release 0

you have to believe that the new supported version is not yours...

can you send to me good final RAW images for test of ipf if Denis had made it?
