Let's say Alfa Romeo released a car called a Tavolo. Alfa Romeo Tavolo sounds cool when said in English, but would sound STUPID to an Italian. Because if it were an English product, would you buy a "Jaguar Table" ? I doubt it. ("Tavolo" = "Table" (according to Google)) So yes, to the rest of the world, "Amiga" sounds awesome. But would you actually buy a computer called "Commodore Girlfriend"? ![]() That is what the OP is asking really. Last edited by 005AGIMA; 14 October 2019 at 04:51. |

At least Girlfriend is better than apple or windows. I'm just glad they don't translate these names into german when they sell them

BitD Toyota released a car which has a funny name sounding in FR : "Toyota MR2".
Funny sounding as, if you say to your friend (or somebody else) : "Tu as vu la Toyota MR2", FR speaking people will hear : "Have you seen the Toyota ? Hey! You piece of shit." ![]() |

There was a typical joke regarding the Amiga in Spain: when someone asked: "¿Tienes un PC?" ("Do you have a PC?") one could answer "No: tengo un Amiga" ("No: I have an Amiga") which is pronounced exactly as if saying , "No, I've a girlfriend".
