This fantastic RickD game `Laos Quest` has been updated several versions since s2325's post. So time to re-dl.

I'm off to try it coz i'd 'completed' the version 1.6.

for the charachter it' seems they use kings valle 2 from msx2(and it's a really good game for those who want to give it a try)
