np, just someone has to explain what those joints are about to accomplish.
there are those Conductive Thermal Cooling Adhesive Tape Pads - you may use to "glue" a fan or at least a heat sink on the cpu. but again, not an expert - but i think some cooling is a good idea #1) here some images by fitzsteve - he also got a hot XC 060 ( heatsink and fan ) Last edited by emufan; 05 July 2017 at 15:08. |

I found an excellent heatsink that's about 3cm TALL and has a fan with a molex connector on it, that's going to make life easy ... but i noticed when testing, oh, the FAN blows INTO the heatsink, whereas modern CPUs have a fan that blows away from the heatsink, did a google and my lord, this is worse that the toilet paper roll that goes up and under or over the top confusion. SEE: https://www.maxim.com/news/toilet-pa...rection-2016-4 Which system is best? i guess i can't go wrong either way, but the fan sits more naturally when blowing INTO the heatsink, which is how i might leave it unless someone says something different. |

Hi Guys.
I found this perfect heatsink, and a fan with molex as stated above, i have the silicon thermal tape, but i'm a tad concerned about clearance, its a damn tight fit, looking for advice if i should attach or look for something .. smaller. Pics show the heatsink just resting on the CPU, it can move, right/left/up/down to show it isn't physically touching anything, but there's is literally millimetres of space left. http://users.on.net/~ivanw/Heat1.JPG http://users.on.net/~ivanw/Heat2.JPG http://users.on.net/~ivanw/Heat3.JPG http://users.on.net/~ivanw/Heat4.JPG Also, protective plastic was take from the rear of the A4000 (i assume there was originally TWO but one was always missing), so i moved that down to help protect the daughter board since it wasn't doing much at the rear of the A4000, but i don't know if the heatsink touching that will be an issue, how hot would i expect it to get an if the plastic can handle it or cause me other issues. I assume that was its intention, or just meant as a non conductive material, i don't know. The CPU seems to be about 47mm, while the heatsink is 50mm, the only way to get it small is to angle grind, i can likely do it, but rather not. Thoughts, to attach or not attach? hmm, tight yes. still no expert, but my ideas: if you still can remove the glue pads, you could just relocate the heatsink 3-5 mm. so there is enough space. if it's only the fan, you could move the fan to the next heatsink "element" and use the screws on the same side of the fan. the protective plastic I would take back in place. maybe you can replace the missing one, with something from the office, such transparent document covers. scares me, thinking off some damage due to missing 20 cents plastic sheet |
