I wonder if the source to WC had been released at some point?

Dunno..This is EA we are talking about after all. Wouldn't surprise me if they are holding on to the license just to squeeze a few dollars out at the next best opportunity.

There are plenty of fan-made projects out there though, including some games made from scratch. (not directly WC1 though).

Speaking of which: A fan is in the process of remaking WC4 with modern graphics. They are also retouching the [ Show youtube player ]

I miss space opera flight sims these days, it was my favorite genre :’(

Wing commander , tie fighter, free space... that Dolby teaser on WC4 still makes me smile.

The Amiga people (like me) had to wait until early 1993 for our turn.

Happy 30th Birthday Wing Commander!
Wing Commander ECS was pretty good on my early 1990s A3000/030 at 25Mhz and 6MB RAM.

I played Wing Commander ECS on rebuilt** A500 (Rev 6A, 1MB chip ram, KS 314 ROM) with Wicher 508i (50Mhz 68000, 11MB fast ram).

**Gutted from A500 Rev5 unit.

PS; A3000 was bought by my Dad who plays sports games.

What I never understood is why they went to the trouble to make an AGA version for the CD32 but only ever included it as a pack-in, with no way to buy it separately, nor a floppy version.

Or the fact that the CD32 version didn't include voices.

Perhaps Commodore paid Mindscape just to port a CD32 version for pack-in only?

And maybe other CD features, sound, intro’s weren’t available to the devs to include, or more than likely it was rushed and they didn’t have time!

It was one of the first PC "killer app" games that I can remember. People bought kitted out 486s just to play Wing commander.
FYI, Wing Commander CD32 version is similar to VGA version not OCS/ECS version.

Back in the day I played WC1 all the way through on my A1200 Blizzard 030/50 and also had the CD32 version. I loved the Battlestar Galactica feel to it. I found it fast enough to be playable but not so fast that navigating asteroid fields was suicidal - which I find can be the case if you don't slow it down in an emulated situation. Grand space opera, good fun.
