The graphics look really cobbled together though, I can't help but feel that quite a few of the tiles look very familiar |

One A1200 that I bought 2nd hand back in the day, came with 2 disks simply labelled "Handicap". They contained the game Roll or Die, which would certainly not be well received these days... Or even then to be fair - it was a PD release.

You likely haven't encountered Chonker Charlie's Calorie Carnage*.
*You likely haven't encountered it because it doesn't exist. |

Looking back at it, Desert Strike: Return to the Gulf seems rather politically incorrect to me. Of course there are many games that feature a Gulf-War-like scenario, but Desert Strike was a high-profile release and the connection to the real events that took place less than two years ago was very thingly veiled; add to that the fairly realistic portrayal of military hardware etc. That being said, I believe it wasn't really controversial back in the day, but would surely raise a lot ot eyebrows if it came out now after a similar conflict.

I don't think you will get much of a push back if you're killing the bad guys and saving the good guys. Which in a game like Desert Strike you surely do. Soviet Strike has become the questionable title
Especially today you have the luck of releasing games in an environment where GTA is hugely popular to the point where it is part of culture instead of pop culture; a game in which you have all the freedom to kill masses of innocent people just for fun. And you generally play as criminals. Any game that does NOT do this, is probably going to escape the wrath of the keyboard warriors. "Wrath of the Keyboard Warriors". There is a game in there somewhere. |

I had a thread over at Lemon 64 about this a few years ago. Loads of 8-bit titles are dubious - hell just look at Frank Bruno's boxing and their depiction of different nationalites! African fighter with bone through nose called Tribal Trouble!
Amiga titles dont ring obvious bells like what the 8-bits had (taling commercial releases here) also dodgy titles like Fuzzy Wuzzies! Jeez! |

Every game is somewhere political incorrect if you look hard enough.

Never mind the game titles that did exist, just think of the ones you could come up with...

There was a game that played like thrust, where you picked up people, but in between levels there was an option to torture them for some reason, lol.

Berra, of course. You shot drugs to gain energy, exposed yourself to an old woman, kicked a baby's head and more.

No Second Prize would be more inclusive if it had participation trophies.
