More questions, what slimline cd writer should I be looking at installing? I'd like to do it slightly at an angle to the top left of where the pcmcia card is but all that's available now is a cd/dvd writer combo. Is this ok to use? Also, where would I take the power from to feed the drive and would it be daisy chained to the cf card i'm using on the ide port for my hard drive??

Awesome work

Seems less hassle than retr0bright and looks great.

How's the keyboard done on these black mods?

Usually by using the keys from a CDTV keyboard... which is what he's doing if I'm not mistaken

Nope, you're not mistaken. I'm in two minds about killing the cdtv keyboard now because they're lovely systems. I may just pursue other avenues of obtaining just a cdtv keyboard, that way I can keep my cdtv as is.

I'm a hoarder and my missus hates me for it. This is why I have a storage container in my garden because I don't like to get rid of anything. It may go, i'll have a play with it for a few days and see. I was just testing the waters to see if there was any interest in the marketplace. Obviously if I get an offer that's around my valuation it will be sold definately.

a slim cd/dvd drive will work but whats the point ??

Why did the first guy who ever climbed Everest do it? Because it was there and because he could. Unfortunately, due to the state of my health i'm stuck here 24/7 and am looking at things to do and this is one of the mods i'd like to try. I've seen others do it and i'd like to see if I can.

If everybody said what's the point the Amiga scene would have died out years ago.

An internal SFF drive mod on an A600 or A1200 is a joy to have =)

expecially when the mod is done to the best standards and also has an inbuilt stereo mixer for the native audio and the optical audio =)

I`m not saying don`t do it, of course
just that access to a cf card is more useful than access to a cd/dvd drive

@zetro
SFF = small form factor ???

At long last, after hours upon hours tonight stage 1 of Project Black is done. All the keys are fitted and functioning within normal parameters (as Scotty would tell Kirk), now I just have to wait for my new LED lights to arrive from some country I can't even pronounce the name of and hope they fit so I can replace the power/floppy/hdd lights. Then it's on to fitting a hard drive to replace my CF card and a slimline cd player to the left side of the case (top left) of the pcmcia card. It's a good bleeding job I have a few empty cases to play with.

I've left the mesh door off as advised by Phantom I believe as I think it was touching my accelerator card and I didn't want to cause a short. I just need to get all the photies in order now and then post a new thread with the images in chronological order.

Not bad Steve eh? Came into the scene 3 weeks ago and already completed my first mods. It's all thanks to you buddy for your advice and giving me the encouragement I needed. You're a credit to this forum and the Amiga scene in general.

Heys chrispy, sure theres lots on here that have done it... I did how-to on my A600 -

I would suggest that with the A1200 however there are better ways like making a small caddy that screws to the keyboard

(will upload a pic in a bit)

DonAmiga did a nice mod indeed read here =)

Hi there,

New here, erm again, but been lurking for a while.

Does anyone have any advice on:
1. the plastic sprays to use?
2. spraying/painting the keyboard keys?
3. replacement transfers for the letters/numbers/symbols.

I've got a couple of very yellow machines and want to spruce them up a bit, especially my A4k, and am looking for options as to the colours. I'd like to keep the A4k quite stock looking just "fresher" than it is right now, but may consider something more interesting for on of the wedges

Thanks.

Andy

Yes I've been looking at the retroBright pages on here but there's two issues.

1) I'm not looking to brighten it up a bit but to go slightly whiter for the A4000D.
2) For at least one of the wedges I want to experiment with some other colours.

I asked in this thread since Chrispy mentioned using a plastic spray, but Googling for it returns little of use.

Andy
