I don't think it's Gamebase related. Must have something to do with the newer auto-detected preload size in WHDLoad. I've seen a similar error on my real Amiga 1200 with 64 MB fastram. Some games refused to start, unless i've deleted the preload size in the game icon.

I think that this fix

- chg: WHDLoad now detects a filesize difference between the directory
scan used for resload_Examine/ExNext requested by WHDLF_Examine
and the file PreLoad, this may reveal filesystem problems in
conjunction with dos.ExAll, e.g. ffs 39.x (issue #2575)

could have caused this "bad" behaviour.

Could explain it, i still use the FastFileSystem here. Though it's FFS 43.20 with a patch for bigger hd drives.

My PFS3 AIO formatted hdd has no problems starting the game again with "PreloadSize=3849694" (or removed) tool type.

[edit]
Even when I start the game from a windows folder mounted as hdd in WinUAE it works.

My real Amiga also has no problems, at least not with Slam Tilt+FFS+WHDLoad 17.1.5206. Can't remember the problematic games.

please set option TRACE and send the resulting .whdl_trace file

But keep in mind that there a some timing bugs in WHDLoad 17.0. Some games could crash or freeze.
