What if someone (like me) has an original bigboxed copy? will be there any chance for an upgrade to any recent version?

Depends on my mood that day as this has nothing to do with Softwood other than acquiring the old source.

I suspect they may lock them to the emulation through libs that communicate with the ARM directly a la the graphics library recently discussed. It would make sense to do that.

I am expecting it to take about a week to crack that out and make the new apps freely available for pirating.

Amiga software that only works on an emulator doesn't make any sense at all.

The A600GS is an emulator, and if you're going to the trouble to license or fund the development of new software for it - and use that software as a selling point for your system - then it makes sense to add some form of copy protection.

And the simplest here is communication with the ARM hardware driving the emulation. They've already achieved that with the graphics.library, no reason not to use it elsewhere.

I didn't say it would make sense from our perspective, but it makes perfect sense from theirs.

And besides, until we have the devices to study, it's all speculation anyway.

And at that point all future development will cease. I got what I wanted out of it. A version of Finalwriter that I personally can use on AROS. so if I get wind of a crack the planned updates will be discontinued.

That would be a shame indeed, but I guess it will be what it will be.

I mean, you could rely on the good nature of the Amiga community, but ... I'm not keen on your chances. There's gonna be someone out there that will take it as a personal challenge.

I didn't mean I would personally break into it myself

I’m not saying you did however I spent quite a bit of money on bringing it back to life and if the community wanted to they could have come to an agreement with Woody like I did. And they would have had the ability to open source it if they wanted.
I can’t disclose numbers however I never expect to recoup my investment.
