Sorry if I'm totally sounding stupid as I'm really far from having any bit of knowledge with Amiga CD's...but couldn't it be a pure media/burning speed issue?

I mean, the driver and medias on your Amiga are from the 90's. Yet you are burning CD's from a PC, using - I guess - a recent software, so maybe at a high speed.

Wouldn't it be worth a try to burn a 1x capable CD at a 1x speed?

Again sorry if I'm just being stupid...I feel a bit like the janitor interrupting a NASA engineers' brainstorming session to give his 2 cents

It's not a wire, but a metal clip that goes on the edge connector to help make the ground.

Iirc, such a clip was used with the A590HD and the instructions for the A570 tell you to remove that clip if already present. My A570/A500+ has no such clip.

If anyone has an original A570 instruction book handy they will be able to confirm/correct that point.

OK, I am back home (3 hours trip during heavy snow instead of 45 minutes) and I checked 'assign' command under CLI - CD0 show up at Devices part. I think it is good sign

Next step is to get working CD made on PC. I had try to do DIR CD0: and use a test disk - no luck (message about no disk) and next AudioCD (this same message). I will try to burn with 1x speed one LHA file with closed CD session.

BTW. AudioCD is 700MB CD-R

@meega

Never had an A590 but my A570 definately came with one. I couldn't get mine to work reliably without it.

From the A570 FAQ:

Quote:
grounding is crucial to the operation of the 570. Attach the including grounding shield clip extender. You may have to connect the shield ground further with a piece of sheet metal in order for a proper boot.

Second step is done. CD made on the PC is recognized by WB I can see files under CLI but not WB.

Next step is to figure out how to make it visible under WB (default icons) and how to copy files from CD (I had try to extract LHA file but I got an error).

what have you done? burnspeed, cd type and size?
if you unpack the lha archive from cd0: , ensure your current folder is not "cd0:". for example:
cd ram:
lha x cd0:archive-name.lha
--> this will unpack the lha archive in your ram-disk ( ram: ).
default icons is the correct way, to display them on workbench.

So this is how it works for me:

- made CD on PC (Nero Burning ROM: settings for ISO9660 only, burn speed x4, no multisession, finalize)
- turn A570 into CDTV mode
- inset caddy beore Amiga power on
- boot Amiga

About extracting LHA i copied LHA.run into RAM Drive then copied LHA file (that was SysInfo) also to the RAM Drive. Then I did: lha.run -l sysinfo.lha and I got system failure :|

lha.run is the auto-extracting lha archive, as far as i remember, run it without arguments and it will decompress and gives you some more files, (lha_68020 or the like). rename lha_68020 (for example) into lha and copy it into your sys:c folder.

Edit: ensure the file is not empty (should have a filesize of about 195k - try "list" command in the folder)
Edit: try "lha l filename.lha" (not -l) same for x (instead of -x)

edit: did you use 700mb cd disks?

I used 700MB CD-R disk (Verbatim)

Back to lha.run. What I remember when I type only lha.run is asking about filename and options (something with -?). I will try this again later, now I must to go and remove 16" of snow :P

if you have downloaded this: http://aminet.net/package/util/arc/lha ( http://aminet.net/util/arc/lha.run ), then you have to follow the steps i described above. this is not the lha binary, its just a self-extracting archive, containing serveral versions of lha (68k, 020...)
no snow around here, so i wont move

Edit: 700mb on such an old drive, not bad.

Thumbs up

True - it is that file and works like you just described

I opened another topic http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?p=490104#post490104 not related to A570.

Lightbulb one more way

Interesting way to create a CD on the PC: http://acdldp.emuunlim.com/bootablecdr.shtml

I just did it and I can see long filenames, but I can not see folders icons (I need to choose Show All Files). I think just missed something during MakeCD configuration.

CD was made with Nero Burining ROM (after .raw to .iso rename) with finalize, Raw Data settings, x8 speed

folder icon you will only see, if there is a corresponding .info for the folder (mygames and mygames.info) or you have defined default icons, but i cant recall how to do this.

MakeCD was option to put .info (I think some kind of default) and I pick it but it is not working. I will try it later again. BTW does AmiKit is this same as WinUAE + Amiga in the Box? Maybe I will try AmiKit instead of AIAB.

AmiKit is a real top-flight package compared to WinUAE + AIAB, Jack. You should give it a try.
