Thanks for the replies and nice video Gibs.
After disabling music, ADoom was way more responsive

What are the optimal Tooltypes to use btw?
Only using "CPU=68030, MMU, IndivisionGFX" atm

Specifying MMU is a waste of time for 030, it's only used by the 040 C2P routines.

I'm pretty sure you can only use this mode with the ACA630 combined with the Indivision/A603, I think it has something to do with the super fast memory access. You should still be able to try the game in Extra-Half-Bright mode.

WOW!! Now this is impressive!!

Many years ago I installed ZhaDoom and ran nothing else as it was the best PPC Doom available. I downloaded Adoom tonight to see how it fares on my A1200T. Well impressed. OK, admittedly, the ppc version runs slicker, but the 68k version is brilliant and is definitely playable. I'm going to fart around with loads of settings and see what I can get it to do!!!!

BTW - when I was running ZhaDoom w-a-y back in the 90s I got it running faster than my mate's Pentium 100!! I was using (virtually) the same set-up as now, but not towered: A1200 - 40+2Mb RAM - 540Mb HDD - 040/25 - 603ppc@160MHz

Very clever but I don't really see the point. To me Doom was a PC game.

@Christian: The point is exactly what it is If you see no point then continue to enjoy your life in all the ways you find enjoyable. Whether it be skydiving, singing, or even singing while you skydive. Enjoy it.

Me, and others, I'm assuming, well, aside of seeing how many commas we can fit in a sentence, will enjoy playing a game on our Amigas that was originally made for the PC.

Have fun

Yeah ok fair enough, I wasn't having a go or anything lol

Just for me Doom wasn't really an Amiga game. I don't think it was officially released? I may be wrong here.

It always seemed a little like desperation to get it going on the Amigas of the time ... like look, look my Amiga CAN do what your PC can. (but not really)

Now I switched from Amiga to PC in '94 so I guess that may colour my view.

As a technical exercise, it's a brilliant achievement, 256 colours on the 600! (my fave Amiga), but I wouldn't want to play it - far too slow.

Yep it's not really an Amiga game and, yes you'd be far better off playing it on a PC but a lot of us get a buzz out of seeing how well an expand Amiga can play PC games that came out after it died (eg DOOM, Full Throttle, DOTT, Simon the sorcerer 2 and Duke nukem 3D).

I have A1200 with Blizzard IV 50 MHz, ADoom was working fine, but when I switched to DoomAttack v0.8, the game flied on the system with music. you should try it.

@amiman99 I agree, doomattack is certainly THE best 68k Amiga port!

Its impressive that an A600 is running Doom, but being playable - well I get about 7fps and this is the same I got on my A1200 with 40mhz 030 not all that bad really.

If you reduce the window size a little then for me, I could play through a few levels, however wouldn't play throught the whole game as I have machines that do the job better.

Its nice to show off though

hmmm

So music makes a lot of difference in performance hm?

How about an embedded ProTracker replayer and someone "re-composing" the tunes to MODs?

Not sure what sort of instruments are being used on the Amiga versions but on the PC with a decent sound card (eg GUS) the music in the Doom games was bloody fantastic.
