I voted both cos I use WinUae for setup, its awesome etc but as the song says
[ Show youtube player ] (Baby!)

Emulators are great but theres just something about the hardware... when it works

I actually learned how to use WinUae AFTER I got an A1200 because using the 1200 taught me the basics easily... the emulator was a bit hard to get started with.

Had to vote for both:

WinUAE for A500 OCS / ECS is *nearly* perfect but it's not *totally* perfect. I agree with Sting.

Another routine I coded recently looks perfect in WinUAE and doesn't on real Amigas. Toni didn't say he found anything wrong with my code so I'm assuming it's another difference between the emulator and the real hardware - to me it seems there are *very* subtle blitter / copper timing differences between the two although Toni could probably confirm / elaborate.

In short, WinUAE wins for general convenience but it's always nice to have the real thing too.

Here in Brazil is almost impossible to see the islands around. So collectors and enthusiasts have these consoles. If it were not I would never play the WinUAE Amiga CD32. I already know the platform for some time, but just the emulation brought me the pleasure of playing it.

Real Amiga gets my vote at the moment. WinUAE is obviously awesome but the lack of accurate emulation-speed (=speed of a actual 020/030 etc) makes me prefer a real Amiga. Too bad I don't have one at the moment..

Retro playing must be as real as possible - only real amiga for authentic feel. On the other hand I'm sometimes using WinUAE mostly for installing WHDLoad games from IPF disks or simply for fast preview for games or software.

Ahem i use both

I'd be perfectly happy with Winuae but i still use my real Amiga for music.I fire up TFX on Winuae for that extra power you get and install games from adf here. For a little while i used Winuae more but now i have WHDload set up on both, it's about the same amount of usage

I do like sitting down to my real A1200 it has to be said but Winuae certainly isn't a poor subsitute

I basically like the atmosphere you get from both

One thing of note in favour of a real Amiga set up would be if using a 14" crt.If connected with RGB, the clarity you get from these displays when running Amiga is absolutely beautiful i find. That is i guess one of the reasons i love sitting down to one

I'm not sure i entirely agree though i do understand what you're getting at.I got my first Amiga in 87 i think and then the A1200 in 93.Iv'e basically always had and played the Amiga though a little less when i had my N64.I'd consider iv'e lived the Amiga era but if i absolutely couldn't use a real machine, i'd still be massively happy on Winuae

I'd miss her of course

Makes no sense not to run both if you can.

Workbench running at 1920x1080 on WinUAE makes development tasks very easy indeed.

Still fire up the 500/1200 every so often to play some old favourites though.

Hmm.. Would love to see some progress with the MAC UAE variants!

Cheers to all,
Red

Im sorry but i just dont get it!!

Why the hell are people saying "ooh but with WINUAE you dont get exactly cycle 030 blitter emu on the vsync 50mhz blah de blah"

Bollocks!

Ok how about having every amiga game ever instantly loading at the touch of a button, the ability to have a 500gb HD, every HDLOAD game accssible, custom screen modes. Speeds faster than an 060 with a decent pc. Hires GFX that your A500 could never dream of, the abilty to use any joypad rather than your 30 year old cruiser, multiple workbench configs, save states!

Or a real amiga that smells, is a musty yellow colour, modulator needs bending to get a colour display, slow clunky loading via disk, crap mouse, slow as hell WB which is next to impossible to be of any benefit. A computer the size of a small family hatchback sat on your desk. Having to search through thousands of game disks to find the one you want. Discovering your fave game has a disk read error.....

Dont get me wrong, i love my amiga(s) but the hardware is irreleant now. WINUA is the best emulator on any platform of any system. Everything i could do on my real amiga, i can do on WINUAE better.

For example, on my A1200 config i can have 8mb of chip ram!!! so animations in animated, octamed etc can store more sound samples.

What can you do on a real amiga that you cant on WINUAE?

probably some really anal coding demo that doesnt quite run at 58.23 mhz with accurate cpu timing zzzzzz
