Works out at £532 (+ P&P) with OS4. £442 without OS4. OS4 for SAM440 is £95. £5 saving over the seperate prices? Not a great bundle price IMO.

Remember some dealers charge 3% approx Paypal/Credit card fees on top - we do not charge at all for Paypal or Credit Card.

Which is great but I think a lot of people will be expecting a better discount (than £5!) when buying a £450 piece of hardware and a £100 piece of software together. Hopefully you can do better on the prices?

Which will you regret more, buying it, or not buying it?

If the sam goes out of production, (cos of a pending court case) what will you get then?

I'm in the same position... I am afraid to say it is a bit to steep price (if any hardcore AmigaOne fanatic hear me saying that, my life will be in danger), but for me right here and now it is sadly that

But its really great its out. Hopefully the community will grow a bit and hopefully I can purchase one for myself later in the year (and hopefully MorphOS will be ported for it too )

But you can get a black and white emulator for your HDTV. It's already installed, just try it with a black and white video! It really works!

Just my humble opinion, but Id buy it if it was a complete system with OS4.1 for 400 quid tops (about the price of the A500 when it was selling tons). Some enterprising soul needs to come up with an enclosure that includes keyboard, floppy (ok I still want to run Amiga software in some kind of emulation mode) and connections so that I can hook it up to a TV. I dont think thats going to happen tho.

Its a brave try though, and I wish Acube, AmigaKit and Hyperion the best of luck, but right now its out of the ball park for a more casual Amiga owner like me.

Now, what can you do with it, once the 650 euros have been spent?

Open, move, and close some windows can be great fun I suppose...
Anything else?

I would regret buying it if it goes out of production more. The user base will still be small and there will be less active devs on the scene than if production continued and it will be useless without any decent software, especially a modern browser. I will not be buying one at those prices, especially as it is lower spec than previous efforts.

I wish them all the luck in the world though, (Hyperion, acube, retailers, devs, users). A.inc can go jump off a cliff though.

It's an interesting point, & the point on which a lot of the OS4 negativity is based (including mine). It's a great deal of money + yet another box to find room for 'just' the have a fiddle...
...having said that, playing devil's advocate for a mo', is that greatly different from to 'use' to which we put our classic Amigas..?

For me my main peeve is at least now settled: Here's an OS I'd like to play with but never will because there's no hardware on which to run it...
...now I at least have a small hope of getting to play.

I wish all parties all the best given the hard work & investment they have put into these projects but I'm still a long way from joining in:
The barrier(s) for me are still way too high (sadly). Port OS4 to a platform I'm likely to have (cough - x86) & sell the installation media for £25 - £50 & I'm in.
Would I be alone?

P.S.
I know this is a subject I & numerous others have brought up many times. My hope is if you ask (politely) often enough it might happen.

Exactly why I think we should have an OS4 compatible Amiga bridge board style card for peecee

There are a lot of ports from other platforms on http://os4depot.net/ . But in order to make it somewhere we'll need to prove somehow that Amiga is in some way different from everybody else. I think the Natami's exercise on seeing if the Sonnet card will work in their Classic Amiga clone with PCI slots when it comes out is a good idea. If the Sonnet card would work on a PC you might very well have a reverse-bridgeboard-like capability.

The problems arise when you need them to have NVidia graphics card support and different chipset support on the PC motherboard and so on. Also all of the old OS4 software won't work on x86 without porting. That's why AmigaDE was supposed to be so necessary in the first place.

With a board sporting Amiga classic hardware that utilised the PCIe interface running on x86 peecee's nVidia / ATI graphics support should not be too difficult - neither should support for running OS4 on x86...

WINE type software could be ported to OS4 as well...

The defining features of OS4 would be boot time, minimal resources utilisation, classic hardware etc...

Classic hardware? What is that? Obsolete hardware?

Anyway, it's amazing to see that the OS exists at all and now with hardware that can run it. There aren't so many OSs around.

A key question...

Is there an up to date web browser for this OS?

Let's add web surfing to the list of things that can be done with the Amiga OS:

1. Open, move, and close windows.
2. Surf the web.

(nothing worth my 650 euros on the list so far, but surfing the web is a big improvement if all those application web sites work, like gmail, google documents or whatever it is called now...)

Well i guess you can use it as I use my MorphOs machine..

Surf safely on the web - no spyware, virus etc.
Music/mp3 - Play your music
Videos - Play all your divx and video files, download videos from youtube etc...
Mail - Again, no virus on this one... Yam is so cool and fast, something else than outlook hehe...
Games/Emulation - play classics as you do now
games - like quake 1-3 and some small games...
Art/pictures - import from digital camera, repair and fix pictures

Other advantages is fast boot, when i come home from work i just boot my machine, some seconds later its ready (finishd booting, not like windows)... Also not so annoying and slow as windows...(8hours at work is enough every day)..

So many reasons, and its also fun Just about everything needed, only problem is online banking wich doesnt work good..
