the majority of those steam reviews are mostly complaints about what you would expect to be easily fixed/addressed issues that should have been fixed before a release.

Pretty much every game is 'release first, fix later' now. That happened in 90s too though, albeit a lot less often. From a German games magazine in December 1994:

(A patch disk is available for people that only have 4MB RAM because the game would stutter)

much more indepth review stating exact issues the 30 second review still came to the same result, just skipped the why/how, but both agree the games a bit of a mess atm.

I think it's safe to say that 'Get it once the bugs are fixed at a discount if you are interested' seems like sound advice.
