For now at least. Mozilla will be turning off FTP by default in version 77 due out in June and removing it completely in later versions

Looking Very promising indeed..
The faulty A500 I purchased several weeks ago from Northern Ireland finally arrived.
I got to work on this right away..
It had a little corrosion to deal with ..but a replacement cpu and removal of the 500k expansion card ..brought it back from the dead ..
The floppy drive has corrosion and needs attention ..and the keyboard appears bowed ..
My guess it has been stored with heavy weight on top forcing the keyboard to bow over time.
Anyway ..that isn't the point...
I hooked up the A570 and replaced the kickstart with 3.1 ..
popped in an extra 512k ram card....
powered up the A500 first ...and the A570 second ...
et voila ..I saw the CDTV GUI displayed.
Now ...I dont know if I need for trapdoor ram to run this correctly ?
This is yer basic ..unmodded A 500 ...
So ..any advice from A570 owners would be appreciated.
..so ..looks like a compatibility issue..

I have to venture out today to do a bit of food shopping...and since I am in a high risk catagory..I am a bit wary.

The requirement is 1MB chip ram. Rev 6 and earlier owners needed to mod their mainboard to turn the trapdoor fast ram in to chip and ensure they had the ECS Agnus.

Great to hear it works!

Good luck. I don't know what it's like where you are, but here we have Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl and Aldi within walking distance, and of the four, the measures put in place by Tesco are by far the best thought out.

Hi Dalek..
The rocklobster is a rev 6A ...and has spaces for extra ram chips ..so I hope adding those chips will help ?
The Agnus is an 8372A 31809-02

Just keep the trapdoor card plugged in, cut JP7 and toggle JP2, no need to add any chips.

Sadly not much choice near me ..
My MS prevents me walking great distances.
Supermarkets are over a mile away..which would be difficult walking with a 'stick' carrying shopping.
Locally I just have my corner shop...
Well stocked but pricey.
such is life ..
Stay safe buddy..

As with all my mods..I prefer to make them easily reversible..
This is the way I approach Jumpers ..and including pin headers ..makes it easy to fit switches.
..makes for easy PCB removal as well..

Pretty sure you are supposed to power on the A570 first then the A500 after.

...and yet if I do it that way round ..the System never boots..
Unlike before on the other A500..there are signs of activity in that the 2 LEDs

Green and Amber on the A570 continually flash alternately but boot is never achieved.
If however I boot the A500 first and wait for blank black screen then power the A570...it boots every time.
The switch on the A570 does work but power has to be supplied to the 570 ..even though not in use with the switch in the off position
The A500 will then boot to the 3.1 insert disk screen.
Disconnecting the psu from the A570 ..but leaving it still connected to the A500 prevents boot in all situations.
The A500 simply never starts.
It would be interesting to know for sure the correct procedure.
Maybe it depends on the kickstart version...A500...A500+ etc etc

Manual also says Kickstart 1.3 or 2.0...but then of course came out long before 3. Could be it doesn't work, could be it works fine.

I've had an A570 back in the day, and it only worked with my original 1.3 Kickstart, not with 3.1.

When it does boot; do you get the CDTV screen or the kickstart screen.

So ..with kickstart 3.1 installed ..
1mb Chipram..
If I click the A570 switch to off ..and power up the A500 first wait for a few seconds then power up the A570 ...I boot to the kickstart screen.
If I click the A570 switch on and repeat exactly the same procedure ..I boot to CDTV screen.
If I try with either the A570 switch off ...OR on ..and power up the A570 first and the A500 second ...it boots to neither screen ...the system just hangs.
Hope that makes sense ?

Will it boot if you power up A570 then A500 and give it a Ctrl-A-A?

Hi Vipersan, sorry to hijack your thread a little. I am planning to do same mod to my rev6a motherboard. How did you solder those header pins to the motherboard? I do not recall those are through-hole.
