With virtualization, nothing is being emulated. It's an abstraction of computer resources. Virtualization is about partitioning a physical processor into multiple contexts and isolating a series of processes. Emulation is about duplicating the functions of a processor (and other resources) so that a the primary system behaves like the secondary system.

Simply put, emulation is imitation and virtualization is not. Then there's simulation. That's another story all together.

Of course both VMWare and Virtual PC emulate things like the network connections or the graphic card. What you are talking about is an ideal form of virtualization which is existent on Unix systems, but not on Windows You are right about the CPU, RAM and some I/O aspects, but IMO there's enough left to call these 'emulators'

It was foolish of me to think that facts could compete with ill-informed opinions. Sorry I bothered.

Big group hug guys
You were talking about emulating the GameCube gimbal. Which emulator do you use and does it produce usuable results?

No I am following the developments with great interest (as I do PS2 emulation, but I still have one of those), but there are no real workable emulators available still, to my dismay. The Wii is becoming more and more attractive...

The best emu I know about is Dolphin, and I don't think you can finish any games with it yet.

Okay, thanks for info. I thought I missed something. Let's hope they manage to make a working emu for at least some of the games on the GameCube

Oh yes Zelda is a big must I haven't played it yet Maybe I buy me a GC to play it, if they can't manage to make a working emu soon

I believe you can play GC games on a Wii, so that would be a better choice

Oh noes, I could be tempted to play these Wii controller games...
No really, I'll have a look if it is possible to play GC games on the Wii and if so I'll need to extend my wishlist for X-Mas
