Right, in my small but vain attempt to try and offer some useful info I've made the b8 version independent of the other directory, its only path is to the roms, apart from that it's totally separate.

One thing I noticed is that it's ONLY happening with sound actually enabled, without sound you can go in and out of the GUI a 100 times, with Disabled but emulated it's the same but the second it's on enabled it locks up within a few in's and outs of the F12 GUI.

first time i ran, it was all fine, the sound bugs were fixed.

since resetting system the emu just completely locks up just after detecting cd drive and just as its initialising sound according to the log. the G15 diplay shows only CD highlighted, no other activity.

Clip from the end of the logfile.

Also realised I had a b4 on the machine and whatever has changed has been after b4 as there are no lock up or sound issues in that.

Does it lock up if you boot to WB hand screen, "automatic switching" is enabled, sound has stopped (blank sound "led") and then enter and exit the GUI repeatedly? And b7 does not lock, right?

B7 is fine for me, but has the audio bug that makes sound broken when entering f12, although usaly comes back after a few f12 attempts.

testing B8 with my basic A500 config, no disk inserted, auto switching enabled, the emu is locking before the kickstart is initialised. f12 doesnt do anything. have to bring up task manager to quit.

Yup...

B7 audio but not GUI bug
B8 no audio bug ( as far as I can tell, certainly no problems like B7) but locks up at any point if there is audio actually enabled. Does not seem to matter if auto switching is on or off, locks up either way.

Can you install http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en and use it to force crash dump from frozen winuae.exe?

Here are some instructions: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/241215

Basically, install it, freeze winuae.exe, run "userdump.exe <pid>" where <pid> = winuae.exe process id from task manager, email the dump file.

Done it twice now, made sure the system was PC was rebooted and both dumps hit 97meg?

Seems excessive compared to normal dumps I've seen on WinUAE?

It can be quite big but should compress extremely well. (less than 2M or so)

Hope it helps...

I am having the same problems from b5 through b8. Random lockups where I have to kill winuae.exe from Task Manager, seems to be related to going in and out of F12 menu. Sometimes sound gets glitched, sometimes the emulation never redraws/recovers and locks up.

It's really easy to reproduce- don't even need to boot any disks.

beta archive reuploaded, does it still freeze? (make sure beta's timestamp is 29.12.2006, not 28.12.2006)

Does it stop happening if you disable sound? I'd like to have confirmation that this is the exact same issue.

(and unfortunately I can't reproduce it here at all..)

quick go with basic a500 profile and a1200hd rtg profile and its not freezing anymore

had a problem with running couple of whd games where the native screenmodes was blank...but restarting emu it hasnt happened again.

sound is still going crazy again when going in and out of f12. stereo mode is ok , but 4 channel mode is often dropping channels.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: Just noticed the log output has changed dramaticaly for my A500 profile, just as far as insert disk screen.

Hi Toni,

With sound set to 'disabled' or to 'disabled, but emulated' the lockup does not occur. Set to 'enabled' or to 'enabled, 100% accurate' it happens with or without 'automatic switching'.

If audio is enabled, pressing F12 works one time- the second time it locks up WinUAE at 100% CPU utilization.

My system is a Sempron (64) 3400+ running regular 32-bit XPSP2. Sound card is built-in AC97. Beta 4 is the last version that did not do this for me...

Anything I can do to help with diagnosis? Awesome work on the emulator, BTW. Whatever I can do...

Hi Toni,

I just redownloaded the b8 with the new 12/29 timestamp. In brief testing of the scenario described above, it seems to be fixed. The hangups did not occur when coming back from F12.

EDIT: The scratchy audio coming back from F12 does still occur.

Can you reset your sound settings and adjust them one by one until you find the setting that causes (or is related to) this problem? (44100Hz,stereo,no filter,no interpolation, 100%, no stereo separation etc..)

I don't have any sound problems on my Audigy 4 with sound set to Stereo, but when set to 4 Channel it seems to drop 2 of the audio Channels.

Also have not had any of the crash problems reported above

Just got the scratchy audio problem as r.cade said.

1 time out of 6 after bringing up the F12 GUI and hitting reset to load another demo, the SND is stuck at -214% (gray satus bar at bottom in window mode) and I then get scratchy audio. To stop the scratchy audio I have to go back to gui, sound properties, untick automatic switching and click ok to continue emulation and sound is back to normal.

If it happens again (scratchy audio with SND stuck at -214%) I just go back to gui, sound properties, retick (enable) automatic switching and click ok to continue emulation and sound is back to normal again.

Very strange, and can't see anything wrong in logs
