We have a 22 year old with 5 posts here who doesn't even know that an 030 socket will not fit an 040 chip let alone an 060. Nobody is too interested in what he is going to use the machine for, or if he has plenty of cash but people are mentioning 060's to him let alone PPC. Do we realy want somebody to blow a ton of cash and then find out its either overkill or doesn't do what he thaught it would? Is that how we expect the Amiga comunity to grow?
True, a PPC it overkill since it mostly just sits there at idle speed doing nothing but a '060 CPU card is a good investment if you plan to just use AGA since there's lots of speedup stuff like cyberbugfix (CGX for AGA), FBlit, systempatch etc which takes advantage of the CPU and uses fastram instead of chipram for gfx and such so the Amiga becomes more usable and more fun to use...you can use it for stuff like webbrowsing so you can download all those whdload games for example to your harddrive.
But if you have a thin wallet and no real interest in the Amiga as a computer and just plan to use it as a games console a '030 accelerator card is perfect imho

I'm a coder and I like the demoscene so for me 060 is always necessary. But I agree if you just want to play games and have a nice usable system then 030 is the way to go - especially as a WHDLoad machine.

so, all we got to do, is to advise him to forget the amiga, store it and use winuae. cheap and fast.

Emulation is better then nothing, but if you do have the real thing you might as well try using it.

The reason why i asked about 060's is because i would like to run some of the latest demo stuff I have seen on Pouet. The trouble is when I run them on my machine at the moment the demos happen in frames and i would love to see the in their whole glory. And i don't see why my age has anything to do with it?

I have a Cyberstorm 060 (@66 + 128MB 60ns Ram)

I have an Apollo 060 @50mhz + 64MB 60ns Ram

I have an Apollo 030 @ 40mhz + 32MB 60ns Ram

I have a Gasteiner 8MB ram board with 33mhz FPU and BBRTC

(i did have an Apollo 040, but that got sold on, as did an early Blizzy MK2)

The reason I wanted 060's..... they are the pinical of Pure Amiga processing... (not including ppc's)

I have a Pure Zorro implementation 060 wich has:

A1200
Micronik Busboard Z3i
Cyberstorm 060 + 128MB 60ns RAM
SCSI 1.
CV64 3D MK2
Prelude sound card
IO Interface
XSURF 2 network
Micronik Tower (extra dual bays)
Emplant Board *FULL* (rom-emulator board) (extra scsi)

(18GB SCSI 2UW)

---------------------

then I have a PCI implementation

A1200
Winner / Z4 busboard
GVP A4008 SCSI Card ( +8MB RAM)

Z4PCI Mediator Board
Voodoo 5500 64MB
Sound Blaster
10/100 NIC
TV In card

(18GB U2W-SCSI)

----------------------------

ahhh.... i love all moto's

Then I'm afraid you need a '060 card
You can ask PG on Amiga.org if he still has any of his superb Apollo 1260 cards for sale

While looking around the internet i came across Elbox's range of upgrades. They seem to have some PPC upgrades but it seems they are not released yet http://buy.elbox.com/cgibin/shop?show=3PA. Do you guys think they will ever release it?
