Core Design
If I look back to my 'original Amiga-days' I have spent most time at games published by Core Design. They have published high quality games in almost every genre that was available: RPG, Racing, Platform, Adventure and so on. Add to this some classics like Rick Dangerous, Chuck Rock and Heimdall and Core definitely get my vote.
Thalion, Cinemaware and Psygnosis are good runner ups. I have never understood why everyone ever hails Team 17. Sure, their games had lots of depth and pushed the Amiga to its limits, but I found their games always 'clinical' -I cannot find another word for it. My contender for 'Worst softwarehouse -ever' is Free Spirit Software. They produced rubbish like Sex Vixens from Outerspace and Bravo Romeo Delta -but maybe this is for a possible Worst-softwarehouse -thread. |

Best Amiga games company?
This is a hard choice..
Cinemaware was a fantastic one.. They put so much detail in their games. Think of Wings. Psygnosis: They taught the world what Amiga was capable of doing with their innovative graphics and multiple scrolling levels. Think of Shadow of the Beast Team 17: Quantity and quality. Think of Worms. Anco: Kick Off 2! The best two player game in the history of mankind since Adam shagged Eve. And many more that I can't remember at the moment (Microprose?). However, my vote goes to LucasArts, not only they created the best adventures but unlike Sierra they pushed the Amiga to its limit instead of caring for the PC versions only and producing ugly and slow titles. (Space Quest 4, ick) Opinions? |

I should beat you to a pulp for not including Microprose, maker of B 17 Flying Fortress and Grand Prix.

This was difficult for me too, but in the end the answer was always going to be the Bitmaps.
Their games were just...something else. They took it levels that noone else could. So many of their games are now in the Amiga canon. |

Just had to vote with time spent playing the games - close choice between Civ, Populous and Settlers.
In the end it just had to be the one game that STILL gets me switching the A4000 on, cranking up the speakers and playing just one more time, and that's Settlers. Stopped playing GTAIII last night, went upstairs and decided to have a quick 1/2 hour before going to bed... god I'm sad Populous still holds the lenth of time for one sesh at 11.5 hours - started 6pm, and a couple of hours later.... checked the clock to see 5:30am!!!! but settlers aint far behind (8.5 hours) and Civ's up around 7 - 8 hours. |
