I never left either. I've had a ready-to-boot Amiga in my computer room for 24 years straight, and counting.

in the summer of 1997 my A600 (020/25 mhz) showed some minor flaws like broken keyboard connector and floppy drive. I got Apple PowerBook as a gift, which had built in 56k modem and plenty of "major league" software like office suites. Already owned a PSX in my bedroom. Since there was not much space left for Miggy (as I was thinking at the time), so I decided to sell it instead of looking for parts etc. Now I am looking for A600 again.

I got my A500+ in 1991, and it was my main machine for a few years, but we got a Mac in the house in 1996 and that started to gain more attention, although the trusty A500+ hung on as a secondary machine for a couple more years, it eventually bit the dust in the late '90s. It never occurred to me if it could be fixed, it was just done. By that point, Amiga was very clearly dying so investing in another Amiga just wasn't on the cards.

Come 2006, a friend of mine turfed up a knackered old A1200 and gave it to me. I then discovered that I could build the dream Amiga I could never have afforded in the '90s, so I kinda went from there. I've now got an A3000 and an A4000 and have been through a fair few other miggy models in recent years!

I've mentioned this in other threads, but for me, it was money and work.
I loved my Amiga, but I was working on PCs/programming for PCs at the time.
I had been piecing together a PC, mostly from hand-me downs as I upgrade other peoples machines, but I got to a point where I needed to upgrade my PC for work and I couldn't afford to without selling the Amiga..

Tough call, but the Amiga just wouldn't do what I needed at the time. PC programming.

WinUAE brought me back.. And after getting real hardware, I finally remembered how much better I liked the Amiga...

From about 1987, I owned a couple of A500's, an A2000, and an A3000 until I left in the mid-90's

Why did I leave? One word: QUAKE. All my friends were playing it, so I broke down and bought my first PC then, a Pentium 133. I sold my 2000, gave my 3000 to one of my friends who was transitioning from Amiga to PC also, gave my last A500 to one of my cousins.

When did I come back? About a year ago. Why? Back in the days when I had my Amigas, I made a CD of games that I had personally tested and confirmed were 100%, and included some proper cracks by a friend at the time named Melnok. I gave a copy of this CD to the same friend I gave my A3000 to, who subsequently misplaced it during a move to a new house several years ago. About a year ago, I got the itch to Google "Melnok" and see if his name was still out there somewhere. That search led me to this board where I discovered that I had made a second copy of that CD and gave it to another member of this board, named Abaddon. He uploaded it to the site, I downloaded it, and then bought Amiga Forever and started playing some of those old games.

But emulation just wasn't the same. I ended up going on eBay, bought a A3000 in excellent shape (absolutely zero battery acid leakage) and then bought several A500's (one to use, the others for spare parts). Since then, been building up the A3000 to even better than the A3000 I had back in the day (Cybervision 64, X-Surf 3, Delfina Lite), and the A500 I have now is identical to the one I gave my cousin way back.

Now, I'm considering teaching myself how to program on the Amiga, maybe to be a part of an Amiga renaissance when NatAmi becomes commercially available.

I've not quite managed that long as I'm not old enough but this year will be 20 years straight for me.

I never left either, I've always had a functional Amiga hooked up since 1989. :-)
