Yes the scoring is a bit of a mystery but I think the final line "score is divided by the number of deaths" is the key, as if you dont die, the final score cant be divided.

Yes not dying surely seems to have the most significant effect on the strength score.
edit: Found out in a comment on YT ( [ Show youtube player ]) how the strength is finally calculated: 30 + (Total score / Deaths) Meaning for my Ax=Battler playthrough: Total score = 7.0+4.5+14.0+2.4+51.0 = 78.9 Deaths = 4 Strength = 30 + (78.9 / 4) = 30 + 19.725 ~= 49.7 P.S. Wonder if 0 deaths are treated as 1 death (because of division by zero) or as 0.5 (meaning doubling your score) or something. Last edited by john4p; 07 September 2017 at 13:03. |

Found out that it doesn't count as death if you lose a life by falling into a pit.
Only a bar lost by getting hurt counts as death. So if you feel you're about to lose a bar and there is a pit nearby you might wanna go for the suicide - then you'll be at full health again. Only works as long as you have more than 1 life of course. |

773 Would've been 1,246 if I hadn't lost that 1 bar against Death Adder. The scoring system in the Amiga version is definitely not as the original developers intended. |

Hi john4p,
This morning I managed to play through the game without deaths and my score was 100.0. Using the formula to calculate the score I would think to have gotten 111.3: Total score = 30 + (7.0+7.5+22.0+2.8+42.0) = 111.3 I didn't divide by 0 deaths here, because that's impossible. Now I ask myself, would I have gotten 111.3 when I would have died once? Or is 100.0 the maximum score? When I calculated my previous scores with the formula the total score was as expected. I hope I will manage to get to the end again with one life lost, or without losing a life, so I can maybe let myself get killed once by Death Adder to try this out... Wow congratz!
I think the devs of the Amiga version might've just capped the maximum Strength score at 100.0. But who knows - maybe with 1 death you can get a higher score? Let's find out... Btw., which character did you use? |

Thanks, john4p! I used Ax Battler, which is my favorite of the three.

Steef-on-line: please remember you are supposed to post your score screenhots only on the page you are playing for. So if you play for Lemon, post it on lemonamiga, if you play for EAB, post in here. Otherwise it leads to a confusion.

As I mentioned before, the Amiga 2 player longplay on youtube features the woman and the dwarf, and the dwarf scored 109.7 with two deaths.

Maybe it's only capped at 100.0 in single player mode then?
[ Show youtube player ] 1,000 So much for there probably being no ties. Didn't know they capped the Strength score in the Amiga version. It's not capped in the arcade and Mega Drive versions. But we could just ignore the artificial cap and calculate the Strength ourselves. Won't get much higher than 135 anyway but would make ties very unlikely. Without cap my strength would be 30 + ((9+9+38+2.4+45) / 1) = 133.4 What do you think, Graham and lifeschool? Last edited by john4p; 11 September 2017 at 21:16. |

I think it's a good idea to calculate scores above 100.0. That also makes the score more honest with respect to the actual scoring of a player. It will be important to make a screenshot of the individual level scores when you score 100.0. But when you know when they are shown (right after the end-of-game animation), that shouldn't be a problem. I do have one question. You have made a very nice score of 133.4 while losing one life. Because 1 is the divider, it won't affect the overall score. What if a player does a clean run, without losing a life? You can't divide by 0 and I think a clean run should earn some kind of bonus? I am curious what the judges think. |

As long as everyone reaching 100.0 strength can post a picture of all his level scores then we can calculate their "real" score. But if just one person (that got to 100.0) fails to take a screenshot of the level scores then we scrap this and go back to treat them all as 100.0. I agree with john4p on both points! I feel that going for scores above 100.0 makes the competition more tactical. You should really think about preserving lives and taking risks with attacks that earn more points.
As Predseda said, on real hardware with a slow camera there is a chance you miss the level scores, because they stay visible for a short while. Maybe the end-of-game animation, should give you time to set up your camera for a nice picture . But I agree, the most important thing is that everyone should have equal chance of putting scores up, no matter what hardware is used! |
