I would say it is MIMEPrefs is more complicated, requires MUI and additional libraries, and cannot recognise files 'without extensions'.

With DefIcons easier to install, it recognises files without extensions, and through the descriptors is Datatypes you can also add file types with custom extensions that do not exist.

Well, you do need MUI and one library for the Prefs Editor. I haven't really tested if DoMime has those requirements. It's basically the same if you want to configure DefIcons for 3.1. Since there is no standalone DefIcons Prefs Editor available, you need a higher Workbench version if you want to modify DefIcons.prefs.

I think it is also able to identify files by file extensions.
