I also recently finished Heretic for the first time. Alittle too akin to Doom for my liking, but certainly had cracking level design. |

The first Heretic? What a classic. In multiplayer you can turn each other into chickens. Why oh why is that not a common thing?

Tempest 2000 (Jag) on the Phoenix Project Emulator from Russia - an absolutely stunning piece of software. It's English translation has recently been updated too so you can tell what is what enough to set it up....

Far Cry: Primal... I mean it is a nice game when you start it, but it is a step back after FC4 lacking the ability to just blow everything up from land and sky and the legendary wingsuit. The world you occupy is beautiful, there is that. But other than that it is just a huge collectathon with very little purpose behind it other than do the same old Far Cry stuff. It gets boring after a while.

Hexen is a classic too. That game has perfect balancing: really hard but always at a level where it is still fair.
Hexen 2 is a typical victim of the early 3D games. Looks dull by today's standards and the level design is just not as crafty as its predecessors. |

No need to cheat on Turrican 3. Turrican 2 however, is one of the most difficult games EVER created.

Last night I've spent some time setting Amiga games in Launchbox (mostly some selected games) and trying it out.
Not getting much further with Armed Police Batrider. Just whole manic vertical scrolling shoot 'em up is more luck than skills game... too many objects at the same time on screen. |

So many cool arcade games; would take me ages to list them... I'd literally have to scroll through the current 35,000 games again
I did maybe 10 or so years ago try to make a list of various great games under different genres; I'll see if I can did this out from somewhere although it's massively out-of-date. Still will contain virtually all the classics though |

Ok, found the list on an old .PST file.
The date of the file is September 2005 and from MAME32 v.099... as already mentioned, it's way out of date Anyway, attached. |
