I hope this doesn't sound disrepectful of the great work done by boemann: I'm providing this information just for everybody's benefit (somebody might find this immediately useful and maybe boemann herself might find it inspirational, etc.).
Regarding the text editor talk, I'd like to mention there's already an M68k text editor that has programmable syntax highlighting, column editing and more: it's called FrexxEd and is freely available on Aminet (and also the sources are available). The great thing about this editor is that it is entirely programmable by means of an own language (called FPL, a C-like language): it is possible to write programs that add just about any feature to the editor - even character-based games running in the editing window! Moreover, there is a compiler that speeds up the execution of the programs (i.e. the editor can run the FPL programs both in source and compiled form). And sorry for the OT |

Great! Is it possible to arrange the monitor position (e.g. by telling the system which monitor is placed left and which right) and move the mousepointer from screen to screen without switching screens manually?

This thread was started on the 14/05/2021 so I assumed this is the latest release. Yet I see another thread where someone is asking where they can buy AmigaOS 3.9.
If AmigaOS 3.2 has just been released then what is AmigaOS 3.9? I'm totally confused now. |

3.1.4 and 3.2 are specifically aimed at original specced machines eg A500, A1200 with a HD and maybe some additional RAM and are the most recently released. The 3.5 and 3.9 branch of the OS is aimed at more highly specced machines (eg with an accelerator and lots of RAM) and the OS 4.x branch is for PPC only.

Pretty much every component in 3.2 is now superior to their 3.5/3.9 counterpart - from what I understand, there is no reason at all to go with 3.5/3.9 these days. But I will let the AmigaOS Team correct me if I am wrong |

Don't be confused by the numbering. Things in Amiga-land are not supposed to be logical all the time. |

That is crazy confusing for anyone like me who hasn't touched Amiga stuff since probably around 1992.
Surely different naming is better than confusing version numbers :/ |

If you left the scene in 1992, then this for sure must be confusing, but there is some logic to it. After Commodore went bust in 94, the OS had a few years with no updates. I'm gonna skip all the legal stuff and licensing wars etc.. But long story short.. New companies licensed the OS and they updated OS3.1 with stuff that was seen as necessary to have out of the box in the new Internet era.. (TCP/IP, CD-file system support, Larger hard drive support, stuff like that). These updates were released as 3.5 and 3.9 pointing in the 4.0 direction which is a PowerPC based version of Amiga OS. The next generation Amiga would be PowerPC based they said.. (And it happened, but also failed to gain any significant momentum even though it is still in development to this day) Fast forward a decade or so.. Lots of the stuff that was added in 3.5 /3.9 had been replaced by newer versions etc.. so lots of people went back to the more pure 3.1 experiencer and only added what they wanted.. 3.9 added a lot of bloat (and was aimed at high specced amigas). So a couple of years ago, a group of magicians started working on updating the old 3.1 code to something more up to date..(support 060 cpu out of the box, larger hard drives etc) but not adding a lot of bloat. That became 3.1.4 and was released by Hyperion Entertainment. And fast forward to now. Even more magicians and wizards continued their development of that modernized 3.1.4 code to bring us 3.2. The Holy grail of clean, sleek, bloat free Amiga OS 3.x experience.. Enjoy :-) Last edited by eXeler0; 27 May 2021 at 13:51. Reason: Fixing spelling errors etc |

^ since magicians are involved, I think I can use it as a "before going to bed story" for my mini-Godzillas

Copying the additional parts over to 3.2 will be much simpler than under 3.1.4 however, due to ReAction being included already. |

That "Help" thing seems to be really huge and I am glad there is finally a full usage for that dedicated key of Amiga keyboard.

These numbers are for the Kickstarts, are they? I have these for 3.1.4: Kickstart v46.143 and Workbench v45.5. Are they correct? (For 3.1.4.1, I have Kickstart v46.151 and Workbench v45.194.) Would you have these numbers for 3.2? Cheers! |
