Weird WinUae Crash

Hello

I just loaded the 4 disks of Alien Breed 2 Tower Assault ,and get into the main screen where you choose your options and finally start the game.I got some sluggish performance from the start of the game , something weird for winuae in my pc.So i had plugged my joypad in but configuration had plugged it in Port 0.When i tried to set the option from "USB Joystick" to "Mouse *" at port 0 it just crashed.

I have included the Winuae crashlog.

Can you duplicate the crash without booting any game? (boot to WB "hand" screen and try to duplicate it)

Does it only happen if you connect joypad when emulation is running?

Crashes with the joypad as a reason

i dublicated the crash. Winuae started with joypad inserted in usb port. Before pressing the start button ,i removed the joypad.Winuae crashed instantly .

Also when i start Winuae without the joypad in the usb port, and before pressing the start button i insert the joypad in the usb port.Instant Crash Also.

http://www.winuae.net/files/b/winuae_1500b20.zip

Beta 20:

- only reset sound when changing configuration if sound mode, sound card, frequency, channels, or buffer size is changed
- 5.1 sound settings now also send mixed sound to center and LFE channel (mixing volume may need adjusting, please test)
- superhires sprites in doublescan mode had halved horizontal resolution
- power led fade support (very crappy)
- possible fix to random joystick/mouse switch crash
- programmed resolutions (doublescan) are now horizontally centered
- right side max sprite clipping position was incorrect
- D3D/OGL filters do not crash anymore but still do not work as expected..
- added Amiga-side uae.resource, safe method to find "uae rom" base and other information. Version of resource is UAEVERSION.UAEREVISION NOTE: in compatible modes resource may not be available. Check sources for more information.

List exactly what you need to do to duplicate this, thanks (step by step)
Just removing USB stick won't trigger it (at least not here)

- Does pad need to be selected in port 1 or 2?
- Does it happen if you insert and then remove it while winuae is running?
- Does emulation need to be running?
- Input compatibility or input-panel mode only?

I can see the reason in the dump but it "should be impossible". (This is different crash than previous)

Center channel volume level may not be same as other channels. Apparently it is good enough

Hi Toni, All

I have found something stupid but possible to setup.
The problem only exist if the desktop is 16bit depth and WinUAE in windowed mode.
We can change Picasso screen to 32bit with no warning (like was not in 1.4.6) and then screen gets black, only You can see is mouse cursor.
There is no affects on native mode, it can be setup in winuae as 32 bit and it works.
Maybe is possible to block higher color modes that desktop when windowed mode?

btw mouse cursor in dblpal etc work fine, great work Toni, thanks

Thomas

This is a bug, conversion table was empty... "Standard" 32-bit mode has color space conversion support to 16-bit.

Hi Toni,

just tested the joystick insert/remove bug here and have reproduced it with WinUAE 1.4.6.
Started WinUAE, clicked nothing, insert or remove USB joystick -> WinUAE closes.

checked this in the newest version and the one before.
when i run a game (tested with a few games on a standard a500 config) with floppy drive sound emulation on, and turn 5.1 sound on, there's an annoying sound generated in the middle speaker and the floppy drive sound is played with a higher tone.
stereo or 4 channels work great.

I have what may seem a rather silly question.

Will WinUAE run properly on a machine with either Windows 98 or 2000 operating system installed, not XP?

PZ.
