Ah - ok, so both *can* work. I'll try your suggestions. Long thread - trying to grok all of it is a challenge, for me, anyway.

No, Eastern works with AfA as well as with my icon.library, but only with my versions 51.4.xxx. As long as icon_lib.exe is installed on AfA_OS Eastern will use icon_lib.exe for the thumbnails. You can distinguish that when you click onto a thumbnail: a whiter image comes from icon_lib.exe, a darker image from my icon.library.
Make sure that you have the picture.datatype 45.17 of OS 3.9 installed for best results (or 46.13 from OS 3.14 with a little lower scaling quality). Eastern should not dither TrueColor pictures on the thumbnail images, just scale them down, if everything is correctly installed. Last edited by PeterK; 19 June 2020 at 14:21. |

I'm curious - you aren't using anti-aliased fonts on the Workbench or apps. Are you merely lacking the Truetype fonts to install and let AfA Prefs do its thing? |

Don't use picture.datatype 46.13 if you also have 45.17 from OS 3.9, which gives better results.
I don't care about AfA, skins, themes, TTF and other eye candy, I do not even use TrueColor icons consequently on my system. I'm not a real user of my own icon.library, nor of AmigaOS in general, it's just some sort of pointless occupation to kill time in a useless world. |

That's the AfA_OS_LIBS:picture_datatype.exe, which has a poor scaling quality. Just rename it to use the picture.datatype of the AmigaOS instead.

Nevermind - outstanding! That worked like the proverbial charm! The thumbnails look great except I need to play with Eastern's aspect ratio tooltype a bit.

@Peter
I use Picture.datatypes 45.1, your screenshot doesn't help I would need to watch your startup-sequence, maybe I have something blocking the operation. @Weaselrama Renaming picture_datatype.exe improves pictures a lot with Eastern on AfA OS, but it can give bad surprises on other graphics applications like for example the WBStartup bar, see screenshots. Seeing the Icons with Dopus4 is important when you need to quickly look at the many icons for the choice in the various Disks or Directories. Eastern is nice but if you have to examine folders with lots of images it slows down the system considerably. Last edited by AMIGASYSTEM; 19 June 2020 at 18:52. |

I have no issues with AmiDock. Also, I don't have to run Eastern in the startup or user. I run it from the Bench, then I use the Workbench tool "make real icons" and it snapshots the picture to the .info file. When I reboot - and without running Eastern, they're just the thumbnails Eastern generated. No big affect on my RAM at all.

Probably not but I only have to run Eastern when I add new photos or pictures now.

Well...not so fast. This works fine on .jpg/.jpeg files but on .png files, it doubles up - the .png and its associated .info are both saved and rendered as thumbnails. I gotta find a work around...

Stop the world, I want to get off
Solved, also found here my solution or trick as Peter calls it, now Dopus4 and Eastern work together on AfA OS and Icon.library by Peter. Weaselrama I didn't understand well the PNG problem, net test video attached I used JPG and PNG images of various resolution and no problem detected Eastern and Dopus4 have become friends https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cjG...ew?usp=sharing |

It's not a problem if I simply run Eastern. The problem arose when I ran "make real icons" on the .png files. Not only did the .png file generate a thumbnail, but so did the .info file. I deleted the results and went back to just running Eastern and all is well.

If you on the miniature do:
- Menu Icon - Information - Save An icon equal to the miniature of the same size as the Miniature will be created. |

@Weaselrama
In case you want to create thumbnail preview icons permanently, you can use image2icon and i2iGUI as explained in my readme, and set the output format to OS4 TrueColor. That works great. Yes, Eastern needs a lot of time for real large images (some mega pixels) to scale them down, but I do not even have a digital camera or smartphone. I don't need these toys. @Carlo No idea where you got picture.datatype 45.1 from, I've never seen it. But congratulations, it seems that you have made it finally. |

No "colpa della vecchia" la mia tastiera non ha scritto il 7 (45.17). The resolution was very simple, practically or run RemLib via script from WBStartup The icon save from Workbench are perfect as the thumbnail, and very quick to create |

In this case you can be glad that AfA saves the Eastern icons in TrueColor, because my icon.library would convert them into the OS 3.5 format, it has no zlib compression routine yet. But the result looks still much better than the dithered images of Eastern for OS 3.x.
