Based on testing, what is the most picky game to get a decent copy of... and i'll throw a few into the ring... Double Dragon 2, Dragons lair series, dragons Breath etc ? (would probably give an indication of your floppy drives performance if you can get a good copy of the hard ones (is it me or dont dragons like to be copied ![]() |

Could you not get someone to load test them?
It's quite easy to do. |

Dragons Lair has longtracks "only". Double Dragon is just encrypted like hell, but afaik has decent longtrack check.
Dragons Breath uses Speedlock protection, afaik even on track 79, so impossible to clone with Cyclone or the like because of missing precompensation. So the most interesting one... is the latter. |

The user interface and a new DTC is now available, see here for more details:
http://forum.kryoflux.com/viewtopic....=46&p=511#p511 Of particular note, this version of DTC supports verifying and producing sector images of the DiskSpare format, as used in AUI coverdisks. |

Well, the DiskSpare support was added a while ago before write support was added, we just didn't announce it until now. Also, the UI is being developed by a separate person to the write support and is happening in parallel.
I don't know what the state of write support is, but is in progress as far as I know. I wasn't aware that we promised it for Christmas... |

Yes, it was indeed the plan, though not a promise. I do know that uncontrollable external factors put the breaks on it a bit.

So far we've been rolling out at least two updates a month. We do this besides family, job and being ill. Things released in a hurry tend to break. Releasing writing that is a gamble does not make sense. DTC beta was pretty stable from day 1 because we took great care. Some people say it's more stable than other software that's officially been released on a gold master. We like to keep that track record... |

![]() Obviously the first, heavy-protected (on track 0), versions. My original DM disk doesn't load any more. After checking track 0 it hangs. ![]() |

Could be a drive speed problem, due to how the protection works.

Really? I'll check the DM disk with another drive then (the one I'm using with my opened A600 is a very old one; its spinning speed is a little slower than normal and not very "steady").
I fear I could have ruined track 0 by trying to copy it with PowerCopy... could it be that repeated/prolonged reads on the same track have ruined it? P.S. I seem to remember that CSB (same protection on track 0) loads fine with the same drive, but I could be wrong |

it should not, i have dungeon master and chaos strike back, powercopy is respectful, (it even deals with precompensation). Maybe your disk is just degrading ?

Actually repeated reads can ruin a disk if there is a problem with the head - so it really depends on the situation

Then I must have the good fortune never to have experienced a floppy drive with a dodgy head.

If people are technically minded then why not simply drop the premium bundle and go with *only* the basic version, do away with the power supply altogether?
I am planning on whacking mine in with two drives and a stock standard ATX PSU into either an old PC frame or if I can be bothered, into a nice pine framework, if there's not enough current draw then I will simply add an old HDD unit to make the PSU power up. It's not an ideal situation but if you describe this method in the paperwork then it's simply a matter for the end user to find an old PC on the side of the road or even go somewhere where they recycle PCs, you could pick up a second hand PSU for $5 - $10 AUD anyway, or even buy a new one for $40 and that's for a Thermaltake, certainly a reputable brand. |
