@jope

Normally I would agree with you, it does look TOO HIGH, but this value seems to work where as "0x1fe00" doesn`t ... i haven`t figured it out to be sincerely honest. This value was discovered by shrub and theres a little play in it i am sure.

I wonder if the trailing zero's might have something extra to do with the mask? I am unsure... all i know is that it works here... and the 0x1fe00 didn't want to play ball on two of my 1200's ( i have 4 12mobo's btw differing versions & KS)

I personaly would like to know why... i do wonder if the KS / Board Revs. or even the MASK has much to play with it... I do know for certain that my A600 just has a complete FIT when i put in 0x1fe00 .. checksums and read errors all over the place.

Thinking about it now, its hightly possible that such a high value is just cycling round again and again soooo out comes the cal-tic-u-lator...

0x1fe0000 hex to DEC = 33423360 a wayyy to big value lol... so lets see...
0x1fe00 hex to DEC = 130560 hmm

irony would be the first value is 256 times bigger than the bottom one... hrmm....

Hi,

1. I notice you are only using a splitter (non-buffered) would you have a buffered device to try?
I guess that would be the next thing to try. I wanted to get a subway anyway so I suppose its off to AmigaKit for more stuff!

2. false Read and Checksum errors occure quite commonly with CF cards you will need to change the MAXTRANSFERS (in the hard disk prep menu) to "0x1fe0000" leave the mask as it is though. you can drop this an octet if it still has issues i.e. "0x1fd0000" or further still "0x1ee0000" as you may know MAXTRANSFER's is about block size to transfer.
I think I did try that, along with about 20 other values (I've seriously installed about 50 times trying different combinations. But I'll give it another go.

5. removing the LoadIDE from startup.
With or without IDEfix I get the same problem (already tested this).

*sigh* Though I can't dispute that there has been joy in the journey

Looks interesting.... what I did when I had a CF adaptor and no CF cards was get a SD to CF adaptor thingy from a camara and put that on the CF to IDE adaptor, bit big but it worked.

I might get one of those, never seen them before

Some good info in this post! I have managed to get my sandisk ultra 4gig working with my 060 a1200...

Just a quick question. Would a dual compact flash adaptor work? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Dual-Compa...QQcmdZViewItem

@Thinlega

That item looks identical to the one i have. wich is good, because mine works flawlessly with IDEFix97 + 020/030/060 any ram

the only thing i will say is that if you have nothing in the secondary port and put say a optical drive on the chain, no matter how you configure it, i couldn`t get "find ata" to see the rom.. rebooted with a single cf adapter and it found it straight away...

I did find that i the dual CF adapter and rom would work fine on differnt chains / channels

Hmm, after getting one of these to work with my 1200, and that fancy, if a little overpriced metal cased one as seen above somewhere ^^ on my 600, I've tried a small standard IDE to flash converter with a 4 gig hard drive on my A600.

it's working fine, except there's no flashing light when the HDD is being accessed on either the device itself or the case light. Is there anything I can try, or is it, just one of those that don't?

for the record, here's the one i got for under £1

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bootable-Dual-...QQcmdZViewItem

it actaully takes 2 cards at a time, but i dont actually need such luxuries, and have no idea how that would work out on the miggy anyway!

however, since i have the 4xEIDE adaptor, i dindt have to worry about it having a 3.5inch drive connector, so i suspect that helps the price!

The cheapest adapter I could find is this one for only $2 shipped. I made a 44-pin to 40-pin adapter cable and installed it in my A600. Works great.

So once I've got my CF card and CF adapter, how should I format it? Which file structure is best for A600 with classicwb?

if its under 4GB and using KS 2.1 to 3.1 then SFS would be fine

you will have to change the MAXTRANSFERS setting when you prep the CF card.

this setting denotes the Size of the block no the number of them. so you need to set this to this value 0x1fe00000 or you suffer from false reports of Bad Checksums and Disk Invalidation when copying files.

I am training on my USBkey, and it worked fine with installing normal workbench. I then decided to format it again, and try with ClassicWB.

However, now when I select HDtools then "Information", I cannot change the details as I could before. It is now blank. Is there a reason this is happening?

@Vikingex

hmmm interesting, Check the Icon Tool type "Menu>>Icon>>Info"

it should read scsi.device, if it reads uaehf.device then change that back to scsi.device

thats all i could think would be the problem at the moment.

I will try it again tonight. Side question though, I am going to be using WHDload on my A600, and some others have been saying about the memory issues for the big games.

I may therefore get a ram upgrade, but haven't got any idea where to start. What should I be looking for?
