I like it for 16 colors too. I didn't get the how-to-change them very well, so they changed after trying with "poor" (something like v.264) and I reinstalled it and I like it as it is from the beginning.

Excuse me Retrofan, do you mean that you can not see a big difference now to the icons as they were displayed in 46.4.264 before? That's ok

Btw, for your AmiKit 16 color distro I would recommend to use the palette of ClassicWB ADVSP, that one that was made by Bloodwych. It is much better balanced than your palette and most icons are looking nicer. It doesn't have this ugly agreesive blue, for example. (one of these colors is changed dynamically by the copper, I guess it's color 4)

Sorry but where's the option to choose precision=GUI in Workbench-prefs? Was it maybe a VisualPrefs thing? I remember myself that this was an option! But where??

Ok, you are right, precision = GUI is the option name and setting as it is explained in the autodocs.

Just open Sys:Prefs/Workbench, change the setting for QUALITY to BAD and save the preferences. The other choices are best, good and poor. So this was the worst quality but now it's the fastest colormapping.

OK righty then, it's been set all the time . With PowerIcons the png-icons really look good, but why's that if I switch to a non-PC screenmode in my setup some of the icons get strange colors and distortion? Without PowerIcons all is good.

I didn't try that with PowerIcons yet. You can use the Workbench menu -> tools -> Reset WB or reboot with the new screenmode. If it's a bug I will fix that in the next release.

Reboot or redraw won't fix the icons. I always run Workbench in PC-mode so it's not a problem anyway, just a bug I noticed.
PS. I miss the piss color

From which truecolormode to which non-PC mode did you switch? I couldn't reproduce this issue here.

Concerning the yellow icons: some other users complained about that color, too. But they will come back sooner or later, as a yellow border or something similar.

I switched from 1024x768 16-bit PC screenmode to a non-PC one. When I switch back (no reboot required) to PC one icons are OK again. In truecolor 32-bit mode it doesn't matter if it's a PC or non-PC mode.

PowerIcons always had problems with SOME (not all) HiColor modes. Under WinUAE you can check out different 15 or 16 color modes. Some of them may work perfect, others not. On real Amigas the CyberGFX cards make sometimes problems with PowerIcons. That's something which I cannot fix. But I'm planning to integrate the direct drawing into the icon.library as next.

My latest icon.library 46.4.269 will switch automatically to the fast colormapping when PowerIcons is installed. But don't use the original PowerIcons v1.06. You should use v0.08 from my aminet release.
You're welcome

I'll double check what settings I used, it was a couple of weeks since I set it up I only changed all the icons yesterday.

I did indeed miss the last reply (or misread it)

I used PowerIcons a long time ago with OS3.9 and Kens Icons 2.3 it was very slow and painful lol.

Steve.

Ok, be careful with that gal. I won't trust her.

NovaCoder, did you already try out a 128-color mode? The new colormapping should not need much more time then as long as the icons are converted to the OS 3.5 format.

Ok, now I get it. With 16 colors changing quality to bad the icons look better; with better colors (drawer icons of Amikit) and are shown faster...

That's great. Btw I will try that palette you say, thanks. Edit: No, I prefer Rebel's one. Thanks anyway.

OK I haven't seen you made a new version already

Cheers mate...

These are my results (I putted a link not to spam the thread with screenshots)

- AGA with 16 colors Rebel's palette (No ColorMapping)
- AGA with 16 colors Rebel's palette (With ColorMapping)
- ECS with 8 colors MagicWB palette (No ColorMapping)
- ECS with 8 colors MagicWB palette (ColorMapping)

For a quick comparison, better is to save these and check them with a photo viewer program switching quickly from one to another

Sorry mfilos, it seems that there is nothing really getting better for you. I must admit that I did not try to optimize anything for 8 color screens, since the speed improvement will be very low for 8 colors compared to 256 color screens and I don't have an MWB-test system.

Or am I misunderstanding your comments to the pictures. Should "No Colormapping" mean that's the old and slow method or is that the new faster colormapping ?
