Great! Does it actually feel improved? It does on 060 but I'm wary of subjective measurements, and could have messed up the calculations in the change. Lowpass filter on FPS was dropped in this RC, but maybe I should bring it back (with different time constant).

Got these numbers in level flight without visible gouraud objects:

100mhz:
PAL 24-25
NTSC 28-29

50mhz
PAL 18-19
NTSC 17-18

In 100mhz the NTSC fps is much higher than PAL, but slightly lower in 50mhz
Gouraud can bring down the fps to 11 in 100mhz, but it can be disabled.

Good lord. Imagine F/A-18 Interceptor with frame rates like that.

Thanks for testing,. What's your setup here? 100MHz numbers look like it's chip limited and running 2-frame. 50MHz times like you're maybe limited by CPU??

EDITED: F18 can run much faster, but it changes the game as it's not made to be run at a variable frame rate. There's another thread about it

Thanks, this seems to hint that maybe there's a screen sync I haven't found. Would explain why it's not one-frame even with JIT. Seems like something I'll have to look in to...

It's amazing to see the game actually playable on actual hardware after all this time.

Can I just check - to try these versions it’s just a matter of replacing the old slave with the new one? And use the 020 executable (I’m running an 060 at 100mhz)?

That's the idea, but no promises. Backup the old slave and try the latest one from the zone. If it doesn't work please save crash dump, and upload your TFX.* executables to the zone and I'll have a look.

It does feel improved yes, it was very smooth before so not that much of a difference for us pistormers .
In NTSC I get solid 30 FPS average (it never goes over 30, even when there is only blue sky to render, so you *might* be right there is some vblank wait somewhere hidden still because on PAL it never goes over 25)... with External plane views 22 FPS or thereabouts (this is the perf. hit of the gouraud shading enabled).

On a side note - can't recommend the pistorm32 enough really. And it seems the raspberry Pi shortage is coming to an end so it will be much easier to get one in (near?) future. I just got Compute Module 4 installed in mine and with the heatsink+fan combo (fan is 12V but runs on 5V so it is practically silent) I get 2.2Ghz at measly 41 Degrees Celcius (it went to 70 degrees with rPi4 and cooling before). Amazing really.

Did get this right? I need to download experimental slave from zone and find whdload version of game, then replace slave with new one?

Could somebody make a workin speed up version to zone?

TFX did ugly things to FFS if Amiga was reseted during play, is it possible to fix this?

Tried it on WinUAE and it's fast, 25fps on PAL.
This small video is from the real thing (Blizzard IV)

Although I get a WHDLoad requester to choose CPU etc on WinUAE, nothing happened on the ream 3.1 Amiga.

I had a quick look back through the thread but it's a little confusing, so which is the best executable to use for an 060?

TFX.FPU
TFX.020 (68020+FPU 1997)
TXF.040 (68020+FPU beta)

Thanks!

Either TFX (no FPU) or TFX.040. TFX.040 is missing graphical details and is not visibly faster. 040 also needs fpsp60 file from the first experimental archive.

You probably have some tooltip that suppress the requester (not a whdload expert [at least not the user facing part ]).

Yes, matches my experience, though TFX.040 might be slightly faster due to missing details. Of course you can just enable FPS display to get an objective answer
TFX.020 is unfortunately hopeless since hunks have been merged (all data and bss ends up in chip mem).

P.S. working on update, as I think I've found the reason frame rate is capped
