[Update] I made music work! Was a matter of wrong file name!
I made a video of it, my WinUAE is old hence is a bit slow but gives the idea

[ Show youtube player ]

So here are the songs that I mapped so far for mod rename:

01.mod = combat 1
02.mod = combat 2
03.mod = combat 3
05.mod = sorceress
08.mod = knight
11.mod = warlock
16.mod = sea
17.mod = strangeland
18.mod = grasslands
42.mod = main menu (have the one from Price of Loyalty for now)

[if i go in another window outside the emulator the game accelerates so i used that for waiting my turn]

Even if your winuae is old, doesn't it have cpu settings with "fastest possible" ?

I just realized this morning how long this thread became.
Haven't tried this game yet, don't know why as I really like the genre, played King's bounty several times and half the times when I started a Mc emulator, the reason was HOMM 1 & 2.
I became really curious to see how it will run on my Amiga.

Have v0.87 and newer ones; i keep 0.87 because perform decently in the old XP netbook, and even fastest possible is slow.

A suggestion: in the black/white mouse option that uses the system one, could we have it change shapes contextually too? (will need some custom cursors made)

From the numbers i see in your video, you're not at 100% cpu use.

That's possible. But does it really make a speed difference to use the "black/white" mouse option vs the normal one ?

Probably not performance-wise, but it does LOOK more responsive, a bit like using the Amiga mouse cursor on the Mac emulation, just a matter of perception.

If i have occasion to go back in italy and try on my real 1200/030 (will need a new hard drive, mine is full) i could compare performances too

Seems to me the replayroutine might need some work: hear the difference between that and protracker - concerning the oboe in instance, it seems to be a bit harsher at the beginning of the sample, made a video using a newer WinUAE version (that is why is faster) - that of course omitting the WinUAE occasional stutters (when the meter on bottom right become yellow)

Sorry, i can't hear a difference. But anyway, should there be one, it may come from using different winuae versions and possibly even different sound settings...
But no, the replayroutine does not need some work. If it did, then Delitracker2's replay routine also does as they play exactly the same.
Creating the mods with PC software does not help either. Might be the reason they play differently.
In addition, if your machine is fast enough to move the horse at that speed, then your settings are what need some work. That stuttering is horrible, and - more important - shouldn't be there.

17.mod is supposed to be strangeland aka dirt, but is loaded by the warlock castle too (warlock seemingly is 11.mod)

I put a temporary music pack for testing in the zone

[EDIT] a link to the temporary music pack in my google drive:
HOMM 2 Amiga Test music Pack

Made a better capture using the latest WinUAE i have (3.5)
All OK beside a slowdown at the end that might be due to my laptop having only 4 gig of RAM AND win10

Thanks for the link! I've now downloaded the latest music version of the game, 0.7, so will give that a try later.
I actually prefer the sound effects as I like to hear the sounds of battle, so probably would have not used music except for the title screen.

It was a joy to play and review the game finally, after hearing so many good things about it. I refuse to play PC games unless they are on Amiga!

There is a comment on the Lemon video asking if this is native RTG or AGA? Maybe you can answer?

This is AGA only.

Hi all ! Out of curiosity, would it be possible in the future to implement output to an external MIDI device ? I'm well aware only a couple of people would use this feature :-)

Cheers & thanks so much for all your work !

What we have here is not general MIDI but XMI. If you can find some software able to play this...

XMI is not an alien format. It can even be converted to standard MIDI:

That would force the use of external files. Then perhaps it is simply better to have all these songs in protracker format (which is already supported).

Thx for your replies !

It seems Ultima 7 uses XMI files ! So the Exult engine is probably able to play them ?
