I searched for 3dfx fyi, not voodoo 3. But whatever, I'm currently not in need of a Voodoo 3.

I've tried Earth 2140, but as it uses audio.device rather than AHI it crashes out quite quickly. I'm still looking for other things to try that use AHI for sound - keep finding people talking about a Quake II port but can only ever find references to the Hyperion one!

[edit] found it - just need to suss commandline arguments now

Is theoretically possible to boot some OS from Sonnet/Rapture/Ragnarok in Mediator?

I'll say yes.

Basically do something like the OS4 bootloader does, load a kickmodule in with a low level Mediator and PPC compatible kernel. That's a hard road to go down though. The other option is doing it like AmigaOS 3.x does, boot with the 68k then hand over to the PPC, but that's not exactly a walk in the park either. The other other option, which is just an idea, is boot the PPC only without initializing the Mediator at all on the 68k side then you have a little self-contained PCI/PPC system running along side, but that's just an imagination idea, which I guess all of these ideas are.

I was going to try the third idea, if someone knows of some Linux distro that will boot via CD-ROM on PPC on the Harrier which would tolerate the NEC USB for Input and a Voodoo-3.

4th idea would be to integrate direct support in AROS, as it already supports 68k and PPC. But making it able to handle both architectures at the same time would mean a lot of work.

I do think it's more likely to happen than MorphOS or OS4 working for the Sonnet/Rapture/Ragnarok though.

Yeah sorry I forgot that one. But what's the crux of the idea, handle it like one of the first two options? Like AmigaOS 3.9 running powerpc.library? Is it booting AROS as PPC?

It could be either, going the PPC route and then change the hooks for emulating 68k apps would perhaps be "easier" than going the 68k route. But parts of the ROM would still need to be compiled for 68k to initialize everything at first then bootstrap the PPC from there.

EDIT:
I did spend some time messing around with AROS and the modified MOS -> WOS GCC toolchain for a while to see if I could get parts compiled. Imagine running AROS hosted PPC through WOS under OS3 :P

That would be pretty cool, sort of like an AROS VM, or a fast (native?) AROS emulator.

aros currently only has ppc target for sam series and unmainteined efika ppc. but im nt sure if it was a good idea to add ppc accelerators to this even if one would volonteer. the easiest would probably be made it take off hosted on bsd, which afair supports ppc accels and pci on amiga?

on the other hand you can run warpos on aros, but we dont have finished pci subsystem drivers for amiga bridges anyway, shich leaves us without the support for cards you provide anyway. at least at this time.

Hello every one in new year :-)

I have FastATA (IV) for zorro (Z3), and it works in my mediator in A4000 with Sonnet Crescendo and Voodoo3 (and SB and Spider too).

I changed only one switch in mediator SWAP CONFIG to ON. With my SSD disc drive i can only use PIO3, but this is enough for DVD and other tasks (transfer about 4,5MB/S - 5MB/s)

Regards

Problem I'm having is that with the FastATA or the Fastlane, system will not boot with a flashing yellow screen, which I think is an address conflict. Setting the SWAP jumper will allow the Fastlane to see drives but I get a block access error past the range of blocks on the HDD.

The A4091 works and I've copied quite a lot of data with it, but I'm getting random lockups after the library is initialized.

Sorry to go back to an old topic, but Quake2 seems to want to go, but never actually loads. I suspect I may be bumping up against limits of the 1200 setup ...

Plays the intro nicely ...

Not sure - I get sound throughout the intro video (bitterman crashing to the ground), then it drops to that screen, and then just sits.

isn't the intro 68k? not sure.

Try to start with no audio.
