Fun fact. By removing the 50kb/Sec limit for the "ftp" account, it now uses as much bandwidth in one month that it previously did for a whole year =)
So, the full contents of the FTP is downloaded about 4 times per month. Code:
Download stats for the "ftp" account this month so far Total Files: 2511315 Total Downloaded: 11.06 TiB Unique IPs: 840 Download stats for the "ftp" account last month Total Files: 2581676 Total Downloaded: 11.40 TiB Unique IPs: 865 Download stats for the "ftp" account this year so far Total Files: 18706320 Total Downloaded: 32.99 TiB Unique IPs: 13708 Download stats for the "ftp" account last year Total Files: 16486793 Total Downloaded: 12.04 TiB Unique IPs: 24813 |

I'd argue that's a good reason to keep the anonymous/ftp account limited!

What about setting up two transfer systems, one that is free and low bandwidth and one that is subscription based, even for 30 days at a time perhaps, with higher bandwidth to help pay for the costs? And if this was already done or proposed, being newer back here, I was not aware of that but figured it could not hurt to propose it again. |

I dont really know what the best plan is yet. I was kinda hoping that the anonymous downloads would not be going on 24/7 if I removed the limit as people would finish their downloads quicker but that does not seem to be the case.
I'm not keen on subscriptions as I don't like to charge for things that I think should be free for everyone. Running costs are not really a problem. I might just lower the anonymous max speed down to 500kb/sec instead of the previous 50kb/sec. We'll see. Its not that its a huge problem, its just annoying to see =) |

The TOSEC ISO and TOSEC-PIX folders should now be up-to-date.

Appreciate the donations. Its not enough to cover running costs as its almost nothing per month. You are the only one paying monthly =). But the FTP is baked into a lot of other costs, so it would not save me any money to shut it down. The donation list on this site is for donations to the EAB forums and does not go to me. I do not have a list for the FTP but I guess that is a good idea.. |

New test thanks to some suggestions.. The anonymous user will no longer see the TOSEC stuff as that is available in torrents elsewhere.
"Non amiga" hidden as well. TheZone files also hidden as that is a EAB forum feature so should only really be available for registered users anyway. All of the above still available for everyone from the google drive backup. Thoughts? |

But i do it via the search of the file server, not using a ftp file client
Is possible to do the search with the upload account so that i can see ALL the results ? |

Hmm... I also just occasionally downloaded a single TOSEC file Guess it's time to create an account then.
Edit: Just realized that when searching via HTTP, then also the actual file results are still accessible (not just the search result HTML page). Nevermind, having your own Turran FTP account can't hurt Last edited by amigasith; 08 November 2021 at 21:31. |
