A couple newer games because the hard work of folks in the community shouldn't be ignored:
Knightmare (Konami) A port from I assume the MSX? Either way, this game looks a bit jank when you boot it up but is awfully addicting. The graphical style is also very fun and the difficulty curve is pretty mellow for an 8/16 bit era game. 4/5 Magica Another port and another I had no experience with originally. It is so much fun though. Each level ends up feeling like a one screen puzzle which I love and the controls are tight. Me and the kid ended up playing this one to completion. The game ran completely flawless as well with no crashes or bugs. 5/5 And hey, thats one more game for the completion score bringing it to 72! |

Hi ! Thanks so much for taking the time to share your tests !
I've kinda chosen the opposite path : getting to play extensively a few titles of each genre by filtering with a rating criteria on LemonAmiga. Those are pretty reliable IMHO. Oh BTW, kinda shocked you only rated Disposable Hero 3 out of 5. I tend to think it's the best shmup on the Amiga :-) Maybe you didn't spend enough time on it ? Maybe you didn't figure out how the upgrades work ? You gotta collect blueprints which then need a certain amount of time to be deciphered and available in the numerous bases you can find in each level --- each base also refills your energy and there are upgrades you can apply several times, which can make quite a difference ! Gets tricky in the middle of level 3. |

I appreciate the info though I did figure out the research. Thank you for posting it though, its something that did trip me up the first times Ive played it.
The reason I don't end up playing it all that much is that the difficulty is absolutely intense and I am fairly shit at video games I usually end up burning out somewhere in level 2. The graphics are probably some of the best for a shooter on Amiga though. Last edited by Weasel Fierce; 12 December 2022 at 17:31. |

Breathless
Replay. I remember being floored by screenshots of this in magazines though I never did play it at the time. Probably just as well since my Amiga would have died trying to run it On a fast 030, its reasonably playable and I've made it through half the game before. It really demands an 040 or above though. It helps to tinker with the control as the inertia makes the game very uncomfortable to play. Turn that down and you'll have a better experience. Gameplay is a bit dull I suppose with lots of grey walls, though the music is seriously A+. This is one I have enjoyed a lot, but given the dullness of the maps: 3/5 Deep Core First play. Feels a bit like a scifi Gods set under water. Very atmospheric and one I ended up enjoying quite a lot. I suppose you could say its a knock off, but I think the style has room for a few more games. There is a fair bit of figuring out what to do next and the game is kind of opaque on that, but I suspect once you have it down it becomes a lot more manageable. 3/5 Skipped: Deep Core CD32 |

Let me put it like this: if I wanted to create a platformer in which you can go to different rooms through doors, I'd probably implement it exactly like Gods and Deep Core did. It is not copying when similar games implement the same good ideas.

The kid is sick so time was a bit limited. You get:
P.O.W. I thought I had played this one before but I don't believe I have. Its basically Operation Wolf. The scenery changes decently as you play but this is pretty hard for me to find engaging. Cabal might be kinda stupid, but having to move your dude adds some tactics and without a light gun, this style just has a hard time being interesting to me. If you are into the style, its not terrible though. Technically proficient in any event. 2/5 |

Dyna Blaster
Replay. This one is actually hard to score because single player its pretty dull and I find myself not wanting to play more than a level or two. In multiplayer it is nearly perfect with that balance of quick thinking and occasional chaos that makes it memorable. One that me and the kid pull out pretty often and which can easily take up an afternoon. Scoring this based on how we play it (basically always multiplayer) 4/5 Black Tiger First play. I vaguely remember being absolutely fascinated by the arcade game as a little kid (and for years every time I tried to figure out the title, people would think I was talking about Rygar). Now, I don't score for port quality but as a game on its own, this is hot garbage. The visuals are very sharp but the game feels stiff and stuttery, the scrolling is in chunks and the sound is dreadful. Absolutely pitiful and I feel bad that anyone paid money for this back in the day. 1/5 |

For single player I prefer Bug Bomber to Dyna Blaster. Similar idea but it has much faster gameplay.

Master Blaster is another (speedy) alternative to Dyna Blaster.

Just one last night
Leisure suit larry and the land of the lounge lizards 1987 version A game we used to play quite a lot on PC, so this was the first time I played it on Amiga. This was one of those games that I think people talked about more than they actually played it, though I remember us getting about half way through, before I got a guide from a book at the library and beat it with that. While I appreciated Sierra adventure writing and that they (usually) struck a balance between moon logic and human puzzle solving, these games are often mean. It's completely possible to become stuck because you lost an item and if you do not keep multiple save files, you are screwed. I suspect with time and effort, this one can be completed over time without a guide. 3/5 |

The first Larry is different though, its essentially open world so you can go back to get missed things. The only real way to get stuck is to use one save slot and run out of money for a cab ride to the casino.
For the rest the game is pretty good at telegraphing you what mistakes you can make. Take the prostitute for example. Any adult seeing how the game describes that woman instantly knows what to do. And where to get it. |

I did like the death screen where you see characters from the other Sierra games.

A couple cheap shots
Gloom Deluxe I covered Gloom already. Deluxe is basically the "proper" edition with more polish and detail. The same comments apply here: It basically plays like a 3D version of something like Chaos Engine and its pretty system friendly: It'll play okay on an 030/25 and Ive done split screen multiplayer on my 030/56 and it ran just fine. This week I managed to reach the first hell level before dying but thats as far as Ive ever made it. This then is basically the definitive version unless I am missing something obvious to recommend the original game? 4/5 Virocop Replay. Absolutely delightful top down shoot em up and one of my favorite Amiga games of all time. The graphics and sound are great and the levels are really fun to explore without wasting a ton of time traversing repeatedly. My only criticism would be that unlocking new weapons takes forever. Available in both OCS and AGA versions. 5/5 |

This was not just a nonsense comment I made when I said, if an official solicitor would watch you playing each title weekly then "Most Amiga games ever played by a single person" could totally be a Guinness world record.

I missed that earlier sorry. That would be a lot of pressure though! Some of these games are painful enough on their own
