Thanks. Contacted Per and got a PM from another user, which gives me two options. Still need to secure a 68060 that will go up to 80Mhz.
Anyone?

Cheers,

Kaj

I'm curious, which 040 turbo boards can be upgraded to 060?
I'd like to acquire a 040 turbo board to an A4000 and upgrade it to 060.

Hi, it is me again. After almost a year I found time to upgrade my Apollo. Made voltage regulator 3.3V 3A, programmed 27c010, 50 MHz crystal on board, XC68060 on board, all looks fine but ... it does not work . Mach is 131 ... . Changed everything back to 040 and it works. With 060 is only one click of floppy on start and grey screen. I fear that cpu is dead ... bought new from China months ago. The 040 works fine with 27c010 from 060, is it ok ? I removed a memory just in case. Jumpers are like they should be but I have checked other settings, no luck. Please help. Dimlow, do you still have this spare CPU ?

Hi,

Have you installed the 060 library?

Not yet, it does not even show a start screen.

You need to install the new librarys (060 and a dummy 040 if I remember correctly) on your HD with the card removed. Power off then insert card and reboot.

Best of luck

Yeah? I was pretty sure you could get to one of the following : turbocard early startup / kickstart screen / kickstart early start up without an 060 library installed.

Not 100% certain but it makes sense. If it cannot run kickstart how does it access the hard drive?

That is the problem, there is no kickstart screen, only grey screen after power on, far from running programs from hard drive ...

I can confirm it, even without any drive (fdd, hdd) connected you can ge to early startup with apollo1260

Is it same piece as you are using for 040 test?

Crystal is brand new and 040 works with it ... I have just tested it with 4,5A power supply and still no joy, but I have noticed that sometimes it does not work with 040 too. So maybe it is a dodgy cpu socket: two 040 are ok (solder on pins) - one of them starts almost everytime, but the new 060 is not. Is there anyone in Uk to whom I could send my 060 for test in Apollo ? Maybe someone in Poole, Bournemouth area (Dorset) ? Please ? I do not want to risk soldering it direct if it is faulty but will do if it works.

DoogUK is in dorset, maybe he can help you.I upgraded his 1240. Are you sure you have the jumpers set correctly, you must set the 060 jumper so that the rom is booted correctly, thats the jumber next to the battery connector.

I have red all topics about it and jumpers are in the right places. It would be perfect if DoogUK would check it but I understand that you would have to take the working card apart so anybody who could do it without a hassle in UK please help. BTW it is very difficult to mod Amiga with two months old son on your lap .

I have just taken out a socket and put 060 direct on the board. If it does not work the 040 will come back for good. Shame ...

Surely try a replacement 060 first??

I have a handful of untested 060's here but I am reluctant to loan you one because you'd be no better off if it did not work. You still wouldn't know if it was the chip or apollo.

Do you have 060 MC for 80MHZ ? I could think about it as the card is working now . Dodgy socket it was ... Never buy strips from China ... . My 060 is XC so it will propably work with top 66MHz. Need to do some tests now.
