A500 4/8mb with IDE board completed - Page 14

Yes my AR3 3.17 works fine without the kipper2k card.
I think this card needs a revision 2 because unable to switch off any function of the A508IDE is a major oversight IMHO, and a new revision with hardware on/off switches/headers would solve this headache. Hence i am not using it for the moment.

That is good news. I've read some had it working on >1.3, but usually with a few bugs. It always starts in freeze mode or having to switch rom after boot and so on.
Yes some kind of disable switch would be great. It would also, as mentioned, be great if it came as a 2mb model too, if that solves the memory conflict with the AR. 2mb+0.5 trapdoor+0.5 chip would make me more than happy

Sorry guys i was going to look at this months ago. Seems pretty trivial to modify the cpld code to accommodate it. I got a second a500 so i just haven't been bothered. . (Ar3 in one, kipper board in the other). Plus i haven't really had a chance to use my amiga the last few months. Also i couldn't find anywhere to get the cpld for less than $25 delivered to .au

Hi I would like a similar setup...
An 8gb cf card with pfs3 (not Aio) on an A500 (Rev5) with kipper's a508 fastmem board, and Betterwb4.0 (or latest). Also I am searching here if there is a tutorial for this including mods to hold left/right mouse button in order to boot straight into a whdload front end launcher such as ag launch....

Guys, atm got one problematic A508, when installed on both rev 5 or 6a, it gives me a yellow screen, turns black and yellow again. At one point screen turned to purple as well.

Note that I did the 1Mb chipmem mod on both mobos, where without kipper's A508 boots normally.

Can someone give me a schematic of Kipper's A508 board?

I had this too in the beginning on my REV5. Turns out you had to bend 1 cap sideways, otherwise it will just not stick to the socket (but you do not notice it unless you really start looking below) and it would do this yellow/black stuff.... Worth a try!

Since Kipper said he was quitting the Amiga scene after all that Vampire shitstorm, I guess you can wait a long time...

In fact I had to bend the cap you mentioned..otherwise it would not be seated fully onto the cpu.
I bought the a508 with cpu risers, although one is different year.
Now ordered cpu riser just in case, maybe that would be the culprit..

I do use it with the riser board, otherwise it won't seat at all in the CPU socket.

Finally tried fitting this card to my a500+ today.

For info:
With the CPU adapter it hits the C307 cap.
Without the CPU adapter it hits the KS ROM.

I'll have to get a new cap for C307 with longer legs, and bend it sideways...

Edit: Or perhaps get a riser socket so it goes above the ROM? Although that might interfere with the keyboard.
Did anyone else fit this in an a500+?

I removed one cap and installed a replacement laying down on its side (rev6 mobo) because of that reason, easy enough to do. I'd avoid high socket stacks if possible...

Reviving this topic, who managed to install an external LED for Cf activity light? I did ask kipper as cannot find instructions. I had removed solder blob from SJ1 jumper and managed to use a cheap Blue LED.
But when I tried a LED from an Atx pc case it went out after few times and also damaged the card

Some suggested to use a 470 ohms resistor but with the above method (ie using cheap Led light) still works fine..
