That is to say that the ATX supply didn’t even try to boot up when inserted. I.e the hard drive plugged in with it didn’t start.

Did You have shorted "Live" pin to ground? (green wire)?
many users add a switch in between at this point if ATX PSU doesen't have one already

It has a switch. When connected to just a hard disk it works. I when connected to the A2000 nothing.

When You connect PSU to A2000 - Power supply stops to work?
Hmm..
Assuming this board is not faulty, power plug is plugged correctly & JP300 is moved - it should start..
If PSU stops to work - it definitely a short on the board.. Check 5V line in joystick port and compare it in connector.. Hopefully AmigaKit hasn't mirrored connection..
This adaptor doesen't have -5V line, maybe Your rev. needs it? As i know - this voltage is used on Zorro II only..

I know you know about the Ian Stedman adaptor - having just used it myself on an A2000 I really wouldn't bother with the amigakit adaptor as it that doesn't give you -5V off a modern ATX PSU - and I've been reading you could get graphics issues and instability without it. My ATX PSU started up with just a SATA HDD and 80mm fan connected to it but add a FDD as well and you should be ok....

EDIT: also - for black screen - with 3.1 roms and without a floppy drive cabled the A2000 can sit at a black screen for a long time looking like it is doing nothing, when in reality it is waiting 30+ seconds for an IDE (which doesn't exist) timeout. Also standard reseat agnus on those babys...

It’s not a black screen. It’s a dead psu. Hard drive doesn’t spin with the board connected. Too busy to diagnose right now so the whole lot is going in the loft until later in the year

The DMA slot has it right next to the CPU socket.

Thanks... it’s not massively practical to take it from the edge socket itself. Nowhere you can solder a header like on the 500?

Do you want me to send you one of the Kipper Co-Pro boards like I offered?
Got a handy header on there.

To be honest I prefer the flat orientation of the cpu socket. But I appreciate the offer
