Perhaps it's already been thought about (and apologies too if I'm repeating a suggestion), but I just thought I'd throw this in here: Crystalfontz have a 16x2 I2C LCD module that also has a set of menu buttons integrated. I've used Crystalfontz parts before and they're pretty decent - albeit only serial and parallel versions. But adding support for the keys might be a nice little option for some. They are a little pricey though at $50 each...
More info on them, datasheets etc are here: https://www.crystalfontz.com/product...2c-lcd-display |

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/302347160024 It need rather a lot of pins though. But probably doable with an I2C backpack for the control lines, and the SPI interface is broken out on the Gotek board to an SPI Flash IC footprint, which wouldn't be too bad to solder wires to. |

You're probably right... But it does no harm to have options - people sometimes have surprising bits of hardware like that lying around at home doing nothing, so it might be more a case of getting bonus features for free. |

This drive already has the Cortex firmware, does this make any difference? |

Also, I am just plugging the USB on Gotek, I am not connecting the power plug on it, but I think the USB power will be enough to power it properly?

I had to initially hunt it down in device manager to install the driver (windows 10 device manager looked quite different to the one in the video), but apart from that it was as in the video. I also had cortex firmware. |

Usually when I plug a new device on USB, Windows makes a sound. It's not making any sound here... I tested it on both my Desktop with Windows 10 and my wife's notebook with Windows 8 and nothing :/

Yeah ,but nothing new appears on the device manager either :/
When the Gotek turns on the red led flashes pretty quickly... I had never even seen this red led before (First time I opened it, I thought it would be easier to insert a wire in the jumpers with it open)... dunno if this says anything. |

I dunno, maybe I should also use the RESET jumpers? I am afraid to use it as I don't know what will do and I don't want to lose the Cortex FW if I can't flash it with another one.

Well, don't know what I did, but now I got the device recognized..... trying to flash it now
EDIT: Flashed it allright, that's what I tested so far: Jaguar XJ 220 - fails to detect the disk swap (It also happened on Cortex) Sensible World of Soccer 96 - fails to detect disk swap (It happened randomly on Cortex.. sometimes I could make it work, sometimes I couldn't. Only tried once with the FF) Z-out - Guru at cracktro, and I was nearly sure this worked with Cortex. Prime Mover - Crashed after crakctro R-Type 2 - Worked Wonderboy in Monsterland - Worked. Now keep in mind the ones that crashed could be problem with the ADF file. I was eager to test stuff that I couldn't make work with the Cortex firmware either. Sorry for the series of posts, but there has been some time between them
I just found out this firmware WORKS on MSX. Got a 360kb .DSK image, converted to HFE, used the Amiga* selector to select a slot in the file, plug the Gotek in my MSX... AND IT WORKS. This is GREAT news for me and probably for the MSX scene too. Now, I tried to boot Aleste 2 on MSX and this one failed.... I guess it's because it's a 720kb disk and the firmware still does not support it? I know Aleste 2 disk has a protection that makes no files appear on disk, but the loading is all done sector-wise... I dunno if that would be a problem for the firmware (I'd guess not, since it can load similar Amiga disks), or it's really a matter of not supporting 720kb disks. And if that's the case... would it be possile to make it support 720kb disks? That would be really great. *I Used the Amiga selector because I still hadn't figured out there's a selector for Windows that works just like the Amiga one |
