Thanks. I've tried swapping lines and doing a handstand, but no way

Thanks Voyager, I've sent you a PM, I will get your usb to TTL adapter.

I had a similar adapter (with the wires) and I'm using XP (Native, not in a VM).

When I first connected it, it didn't work.

But one of the things I did was leave the USB device connected, but disconnected just the power (RED wire on mine) to the GOTEK, so it power cycled the device while it was connected to the PC.

Then it worked for me...

I've never had any problems with the XP machine seeing the USB device. It was just the flasher tool seeing the GOTEK.

Also, I'm sure you are doing this already, but make sure you go into Device Manager to see what COMM port your USB device is getting and set the flasher tool to that one.

In my case, it was COMM 6.

Good Luck.

(Also, if you have a multimeter, probably worth checking the voltage on those 2 lines (Red/black on mine) to make sure you've got 5V)

H.M,

Sorry if this has been asked and answered.

What is the likelihood of ipf support?

i.e is the hardware capable of doing it.

Does the hardware have enough flash left to add support, is the processor on the hardware good enough etc.

It took me half a dozen attempts to get the flashing software to talk to the gotek over my cheap USB RS232 gizmo, but once it decided to work, it worked fine.

If anyone needs a unit flashed and can't get it to work, I'd be happy to do it - just send me a PM. Also I have a couple of spare units pre-flashed, so let me know if you want one.

Yep, same here. I eventually got it to work by power cycling the GOTEK while leaving the serial attached..

Of course, then I re-read the instruction webpage and it mentions there is a RESET pad, and I'm willing to bet that was what I should have done, but instructions and me.. Well, we aren't strangers but aren't devoted either; it's a much more casual relationship.. ;-)

Same here for U.S. (well, for flashing a unit, I don't have any spares pre-flashed) But I'd really recommend getting the serial device, as I expect firmware updates to happen as it's being finished up..
At least for a while...

Last friday I finally got my gotek. First one I ordered never arrived...

I had small USB to TTL adapter from before, based on CP210x controller, but it didn't go all that smooth. At first programming app couldn't establish communication with it so, I'm not sure if it was connection problem as I didn't solder pin header to it, I just put dupont wire through holes and pressed them to ensure proper contact. Few times it did managed to communicate with it, but when I tried to erase original software it lost it. Tried resetting gotek but didn't help.

What worked in the end was different USB connector, or more probable, controller. At first I had it USB to TTL plugged in monitor hub (USB 2.0), next I tried plugging to USB 2.0 port on the case, this managed to get further as I said above, but lost it when I tried to erase. Lastly I tried plugging it in USB 3.0 port on my computer and this time it worked flawlessly, comm check fine, erase fine and programming fine. What's more it finished programming in 10 seconds, I expected up to two minutes as instructions say.

I don't know if it was just by chance or it could indeed be that it depends on USB controller that serial adapter is connected to. In first case it was controller in the monitor HUB, in second case it was USB 2.0 controller on the motherboard, and in the last case it was USB 3.0 controller on the motherboard.

Forgot to write, it was under Windows 7 x64

Hi mates,
I came back here after many, MAAANY months... . I missed you.

Very interesting thread!

I have a question. I read all the thread but couldn't find an answer:
Is the new/custom firmware able to manage Extended ADFs too?
Or does it manage normal ADFs only?

I fear the answer is the first one , but it would be very nice if it was the second .

Has anyone found a reliable way to flash under Windows 7? Seems to be a no-goer and I see others have had problems too.

What about stm32flash under linux? Anyone had joy there?
