0x7FFFFFFE (8 characters, your mask value seems to miss one character) is the usual value but it does not really matter with non-DMA controllers, PFS3 just does extra check to confirm if buffer address matches mask.

Thanks Toni. adding an extra f sorted it out. Either I can't count or I need another eye test.

Ok. Amiga 600.
So I got my 4gb Transcend memory card, CF-IDE converter and 44 pin Ide cable and hooked it all up, lights came on the adaptor to tell me there is a drive present... And... Nothing! Ok, false start, found out that although my Kickstart was labelled 2.05, it was version 37.299, which, apparently doesn't support the internal port. So I swapped out the 3.1 from my Amiga 500. Right, now we're getting somewhere, HDToolbox tells me that there's something at SCSI 0,0. But is "unknown" so went into custom device and add and detect and... "unit is not a disk (type 7)" which bought me to this thread. So, i popped it back out of the adaptor and into the front panel cf reader on my pc, ran up WinUAE configured as an A600 and added the CF as a drive on IDE0 (after realising you have to run UAE as Admin. Booted up UAE and partitioned the drive as 512mb System (DH0) and 3.5gbish Storage (DH1). Workbench 3.1 installed and running fine from the System partition, good. Now i go to format the second partition and... Not A Valid DOS Disk! Can anyone help on this? Thanks! |

Add more RAM. Big partitions need a lot of memory to validate.
Or make more smaller partitions. It's a good idea to keep partition sizes below 2 GB anyway. |

Scratch my idea, 3.1 is the same for all single rom machines, i was wondering if it would have ide support being from a 500, seems it does.

I am really desperate with my CF setting in my A1200 and hope that you guys can help me. I have a problem in getting my 16GB and 32GB CF cards to run in my A1200.
I prepared my 16GB card according to fitzsteve's instructions on this video: [ Show youtube player ] When I start the CF card as IDE0 in WinUAE os3.9 boots up without any problems. However, it just won't boot up on my A1200. I just get the please enter disk screen. I also tried installing WB3.1 in WinUAE and boot up on the A1200. Again the same result: WB loads in WinUAE however not on my A1200. Do you guys have an idea where the problem might be? I tried this over and over and just cannot find the cause of the problem... Thanks! |

Connect the CF card to your Amiga and boot it up with the Install3.1 floppy disk. If you run HDToolbox, does it see the card?
If not, then it's a hardware problem. Check correct seat of cable, CF adapter and so on. In case all else is correct, then bad luck, incompatible CF card ![]() If HDToolbox sees the card, install it on the Amiga. Then you can move it back to WinUAE and install the OS. Ensure that the partitions you see in WinUAE are ones you created on the Amiga and not the ones you created on WinUAE before (i.e. give them new names you didn't use before). |

How does Cloanto's KS 3.X play in to all of this?

The 3.x ROM has scsi.device 43.46, which is not the Cosmos hack with same version number, but based on 43.45 which is good. This together with the included FFS 45.16 gives you >128GB support without any reboots.
I'd say PFS3AiO is still preferable to FFS 45.16 though, but again: not required for large drive support. |

About A600 internal IDE (scsi.device 43.46 in ROM). I have a 128GB SD-card, hdtoolbox sees it like this:
249138 * 16 * 63 * 512 = 128579125248b = 125565552k = 119.74864 Meg I can make two of equal size partition (2x 59.8G) and they works ok. But for some reason one PDS\03 partition has 101.5 gigabyte barrier ( 211331 * 16 * 63 * 512). If I increase one partition total cyls to 211332, then PFSFORMAT fails (returncode 20). This is less than the PFS3 max partition size. I can reproduce this issue even on WinUAE. Why Amiga 600 IDE has this 101.5 gigabyte/partition barrier? |

Not sure. It's very close to 104GiB which is supposed to be the PFS3 partition size limit though, so I'm not convinced it's not just the file system.
You could play around with file systems, amiga models or scsi.device versions in WinUAE to figure out which component is causing it ![]() (FFS 45 and SFS with dostype SFS\2 allow larger partitions) |

I have not find time to test yet. SFS\0 has SCSI direct support and it should work with max. 128 GB partitions. I think PFS3 partition size limit info is outdated: http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=961062&postcount=58

Ok, I'll probably check it out then, but not today.
Only the older version 1.084 of SFS has direct SCSI support. (You don't need direct SCSI as your scsi.device has NSD support) The PFS3 AiO features discussed in your link are only found in the 'experimental' branch at sourceforge I think. Version 2.3 from aminet was released before that post. |
