This really looks amazing, wow!
I'm so glad I sparked this off with my question.

Could you copper-swap them only on the lines where the player’s tyres are?

A good idea, but probably not, the scenery uses those colours as well.
And if we were to implement it, the other cars/trucks should also have it.

Just an idea: what about making some tyre pixels transparent, that way we would see the road colors flicker through and as they're also grey, this might do the trick…

I’m almost out of memory, so I’m going to dig in for a while and implement some optimisations, and the loading of stuff for later stages.
Don’t expect new updates for a while.

Having watched the long-play on YouTube, I think in some respects, graphically, our version looks better than the Mega-drive version, so far. But there is plenty more work to do.

I’m sure we’ll top the MD version’s graphics, music and gameplay

Do you think some kind of split screen 2 player option could be possible? similar to Lotus or Outrunners on Mega Drive.

No, this will be single player only.

That is excellent.

But I have a query, that is meant constructively.

Is the bass on the first section a teeny bit out, tune wise? It may be my ears, or a Paula limitation, but it doesn't sound quite so "sweet" with the keyboard(?) sound as I remember, in just that early bit.

Really not trying to be a nob, It's just if I'm right (and I may well be wrong) it maybe relatively easy to put right.

In any case, it is excellent.

Might be a byproduct of downsampling to 8-bit

I have listened to the original and IM76's Amiga one several times, but I still find virtually no difference. The only one I have heard lies in the fact that the original has 20 audio channels available as well as higher quality than poor Paula.

MD version is not looking very good, specially the main car, is very dark and the graphic style is different than the arcade, I love the PCengine version because the graphics look more like the arcade.

Of course, the original Amiga's Outrun is really bad, the graphics are not as good as it should be, even with 16 colours, it is possible to get much better graphics quality.

Yeah, I agree, the mega-drive version is odd. Its more interpretive than an actual arcade recreation. The car looks odd, smooth pixel style- So far we are keeping as close to the arcade as possible, right down to the last pixel. The original amiga version is jerky and visually poor indeed.

The frame rate for 14MHz 68EC020 + FastRAM looks very impressive. Well done.

WinUAE Emulation of A1200 + Fastram is not close enough to the real hardware.
