Some editions are sold out already but most still available at time of writing.

Mine is pre-ordered.

Which version did you go with in the end, Borgy?

Pro tip: check the "search titles only" checkbox when using the search. That's how I found the link, as without it you get almost the entire forum in the search results

Oh nice, more livestream goodness.

A day or two ago World of Longplays also did a livestream playing through the three Turrican games (although Turrican 3 was Mega Turrican) in one sitting through this collection package - no savestates. It was quite enjoyable to watch, the host (ScHlAuChi) is pretty good at the games, far better than me in any case Some visible slowdowns here and there though that I don't remember seeing while playing on the real thing.

Made me realise that I need to stop pretending that Turrican 3 is worse than the first two.

@Gimbal

The real killer for t3 is the fact they got read of the beam, else is almost as competent of the first two: wish however that Amiga version got the parallax layer twisting like in the megadrive version - and btw megadrive music is good but Amiga version has some jewels that sounds even better than T2
[i was there looking at the stream btw]

It was almost a crime to have a game released in 1993 held back by a 512k amiga configuration. T3 could have been much closer to the megadrive version.

I always found the beam a little janky to be honest, it stops the game dead since you have to stand still and wait a moment for it to startup. Plus the fact that you keep hovering in the air when you blast away the floor beneath you... 1/10 unplayable!

That's a bit harsh. The beam was the best part of the game for me.

I really liked Turrican 3. In general I thought it was a well thought out successor.
After playing it alittle I could live very well with the beam, and found it to be a nice new gameplay mechanic.

Unfortunately the Amiga version had it's drawbacks.
- The parallax backgrounds are missing mostly and are replaced with something much simpler. But I can live with that.
- In the level with the spaceships platforming they're stationary in the Amiga version, which was very boring. In the Megadrive version they fly around.
- In the junkyard level everything is plain grey. Enemies, crates, items, floor. This level looks really shitty
+ Music is great !
+ At least two button control
+ One disk, so no swapping

But also the Megadrive version has some elements which I don't like.
- Too many explosions, even when shooting small enemies. I find it rather annoying
- The stretching background in the Alien level is also very annoying
- The music is good, but IMO far from the quality of the Amiga version
+ 3 button controls
+ very colorful

I'm really torn which version I prefer. The only thing that rescues the Amiga version for me is the music, and that's a big important factor for me when playing a game.
But in the end it's the Megadrive version for me, I think.

There was a series in a german magazine, "Amiga Games" I think, with a "developers diary" of sorts.
Couldn't wait to buy the game after reading it. Was one of my best buys back then.

So it is better for you than the music, the level design, the wide variety of enemies, the colorful graphics, the technical wizardry of the Amiga versions... That is what I call harsh.
