Hi Koobo!

I may have found two bugs with the latest version of HiP (from GitHub):
  1. When playing OffTopic, HiP plays "noise" or there is a Guru 8000 0005 in HiP-PS3M. (I attach some MuForce hits.)
  2. When playing "infinite" modules like Deep Dust, HotWires, or Infinite Mass, HiP never stops playing although I set up a max. of 7 minutes in Prefs -> General -> Timeout -> All modules

Take care!

I think I found a bug that's probably there since ages... Funny nobody noticed it before:

Subsongs can be navigated with arrows left and right, 'left' decreases the subsong no., 'right' increases it. So far to good. You can also navigate using your numpad 4 and 6. But here, 4 increases the subsong no and 6 decreases it. I think it should be the other way round, shouldn't it?

Cheers,
Michael

Found some more, but just small ones:
  • [SHIFT-F] now toggles the favorites as stated in the readme. Thing is, [SHIFT-F] was already in use as "search next" (= search without input requester).
  • Moving: if no item is selected the moved item is inserted at the top of the list (I like that fix a lot, it's for a bug I mentioned to SpotUp and he said he relayed it to you). Now, usually the pasted item is automatically selected, but not in this special case.

Thank you everyone for the bug findings!

This one especially is a bit embarrassing:

The S3M file might be one of those which have "an uneven length orders table". These will sadly crash Hippo at the moment (also they are not following the S3M file format structure).

I tried out the timeout function and it works here at least with the above modules.

I did notice a new problem in v2.52. The end detection of modules that are "never ending" does not work anymore, as it did for in the previous version. This is an unfortunate side effect of the fix where when module ended Hippo skipped over the next module instead of playing it... I will try to fix this.

Hi Koobo!

Thanks for looking into these issues

Regarding the timeout function, how did you configure it in your Amiga?

Cheers!

What kind of setup does this happen on? UAE or Amiga, screen resolution, etc?

I dragged the slider to "7:07" and selected "Use" in the Prefs window.

Did this work on previous versions for you or was it a new problem in v2.52?

It's a real Amiga with a Phase 5 Blizzard '060, an Indivision, and a screen resolution of 1024x768 via HighGFX.

Cheers!

PS. It definitely used to work in previous version but I'm not sure when it stopped working and if the problem comes from something else, let me do some more test

Ha, I knew it! I just recently fiddled around on my Amiga and decided to play DIGI modules in the same exact screen mode. Incidentally I also have the Indivision + 060 combo. I have the same issue as you, and it also happens with modules of these formats:
  • OctaMED 8ch
  • DIGI Booster 8ch
  • Face The Music 8ch
  • Digital Mugician 7ch
  • Jochen Hippel 7ch
  • Music Maker 8ch
  • TFMX 7ch

If I switch to some lower resolution the problem goes away, for example PAL hires interlace.

My theory is that this setup draws too much power in certain situations which causes problem with the Indivision, which is apparently quite picky regarding voltage fluctuations. The above replayers are likely heavy users of level 4 (audio) and level 6 (high priority timer) interrupts which could be related.

I need to try out if the same happens also with EaglePlayer... just out of general interest.

I had a look and it turns out that PS3M does handle boost just fine if a large enough value is given, the Prefs slider just maxed out at 8 where 16 would be better for Impulse Tracker.

Well, Paula sync. to the screen refresh mode.
I have a scandoubler, internal on my A1200.
If I play MP3 on my workbench screenmode, Productivity mode, 57hz and switch to some PAL low. res screen for some program the music go half speed etc.
That is using Song Player but it should be same for other players.

A 31 kHz (or thereabouts) horizontal screen refresh rate doubles the audio DMA slots available for Paula, also doubling the playback frequency to about 56 kHz.

Trying to play a sample or an MP3 file with over 28 kHz playback frequency on OCS screenmodes requires realtime resampling (HippoPlayer does this by the way).

EDIT: The above mentioned screen flickering is not related since there is no problem in the audio playback.

Cool setup

Thanks for testing!
On my setup, this "jump" happens with EaglePLayer but only when it starts, after that, IIRC, players work without glitching the screen...

Cheers!

There are so many eagleplayers and amplifiers etc it's not straightforward to do a comparison, but I have the similar screen glitch effect on both Eagleplayer and HippoPlayer when playing Digital Mugician 2 multichannel modules. Hippo uses "mugician ii" by Wanted Team. If the same EP is used also on Eagleplayer, the screen glitch is the same.

"mugician ii" uses level 4 audio interrupts, which is quite interesting. Maybe there is some connection with this particular screenmode, the power supply, Indivision, and level 4 interrupts...

Hi Koobo,

I have had a chance to test the version 2.52 against my collection of game and cracktros:

It worked like a champ

Among a couple of hundreds of exotic formats, the only I could find not compatible is the Ron Klaren format, like the enclosed Scoopex.rk. This works well on Eagle Player v2.05

Keep up the good work and many many thanks

What I would love is if you could add double click in song in the playlist to play it.

Thanks for the great player.
