I think an advance money cheque talks more than potential sales, otherwise he wouldn’t have ported Doom to the Atari Jaguar which had less than 50k sales when he ported it and only attained 125k sales in total by 1996.

Not me.
And I wonder, why would anyone, with a bit of common sense, and if they knew of Amiga, choose 486, over 040 Amiga in 1993-1994.
There was still no Win95.. you're stuck with pointless Win 3, or Dos Navigator, with crappy 2D games, with small monitor with big sharp pixels.
I mean, even after Win95, because that Win, when it came out, it was pretty problematic, and I remember reading in Magazines how people were disappointed, and how MS support was overwhelmed with complains and errors.

Amiga 040, on the other hand, you have beautiful Workbench, that starts like PC's with SSD in 2012, in just few seconds. You have billions of amazing 2D games, you have Personal Paint, amazing softwares of all kind, 3D apps, music software, and with 040 you have a raw power to do all kinds of crazy stuff.

Yep and that's why we all use AmigaOS 14.2 today and not Windows 11... oh wait.

They bought 486 because they already used PC software, most of which was not for entertainment. You can say what you like, but x86 always had excellent backwards compatibility.

No matter how good an 040 powered Amiga was in 1993 (and the 3640 board was not great), if it didn't run the software you needed, what was the point?

As far as I am concerned, if I had had enough money BitD, I would have buy an A4000 for sure. Doom was and will never be a computer seller.

Exactly.
(Summarised) PC took the lead because it was 1st sold to companies. It came from office to home only in a second time. On most homes that had one, parents had it and used it professionally.
Amiga on the other hand even if it had beautiful professional software never get it really to companies as it was seen as a less serious computer. On most homes, kids had it and used it to play (or code)...
I have always considered MS products as bad (because too heavy and buggy) but there is one thing B.G.ates (not the BGG (BFG in UK)) was good at : setting partnership to ensure his company a good amount of sales. This leaded him to several issues afterwards but he was already full of money enough to not really care at all about theses lawsuits.
A thing that C= was never able to achieve (if they ever tried to do it)...
