Upgrade a Blizzard 1230 II ?!? HELP !!!

I recently bought a BLIZZARD 1230 II from Ebay for my A1200. It was the 68Ec030 Version with 40 Mhz. So I took the manual and I read : "....can easiely being upgraded to the 68030 Version with 50 Mhz.) ! GREAT, but when I got myself a real 68030 and a 50 Mhz. (whatever the word is in english, You know, its for the Mhz.) I plugged all in and ............ I only have 8 MB fastmem from 16 MB on board ????? WHY that, and I cannot use my CDRom any more ??? when I use the 68030 with 40 Mhz. it runs all fine .... HELP me, I want to have 50 Mhz. !!! PLEASE !!!

This could be a jumper setting problem. Had the same thing once with my own turbo-card. Instead of 8mb fast I got 4 mb and the CD-rom also didn't work. I changed a jumper setting and it worked fine.

Hmmmm, which Jumpersetting ?? Only Jumpers on board are for MapROM, RAM Config and one for a different CPU/FPU Mhz. ?? All that doesn´t have to be changed IMHO cause I use the same amount of RAM as before, I only changed CPU and there´s no Jumper for that one !!

That's defenitely strange. I don't have a blizzard, so I don't know how these cards work. The problem occured to me when I upgraded from 4 mb to 8 mb. I probably changed the jumper settings for the ram. But I suggest you play around a bit with all jumpers you can find on your card, you may never know. Your hardware setup could also be the problem. I've been suprised many times by Amiga hardware. I had 3 A1200's once and a turbo card that didn't work in one of these. So I changed motherboards, cards, diskdrives, ram etc form one A1200 into the other. I tried all combinations of hardware. Finally I had three working machines without crashes. I didn't understand the problem, but that's how I fixed it.

I think that's a problem with the PSU. The 68030/50 needs more power. You should try it with a stronger PSU.

Hmm, since I got no Tower, I use a PSU from the A500. Isn´t that strong enough ? Is the Power use that much higher with 10 Mhz more ?? Well, I doubt that, but it semms to be that I have to modify one of my old AT PSU´s

Not so much but it *is* higher. Maybe you current PSU already reached its limit.

Yes, off course. The power supply could also be a problem.

I remember being very happy I already had the heaviest PSU around for my A1200 when I bought my Blizzard 030/50/8Mb. Exactly because people were warning at the time of PSU's that were too light (notably A500 PSU's).
