Demoeffect: zooming

Hi,
I've been struggelning with bitmapzooming for a while, and I do find it facinating.

Could anyone explain how one does a proper gapfiler what works in real-time (a500)? Cpu wont do it and blitter is ok to some extent, but yet people seem to do... something..

Example, the vertical scroller here (the screenshot):
http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=14946

working dl:
http://ftp.amigascne.org/pub/amiga/G...ixelnation.dms

If the copper is doing the filling in this scoller, how does he manage to do it in one-pixel vert. resolution? So, I rule the copper out, but how is it done without precalc, anyone?

Is it possible blitter area fill is being used to fill the spaces between block edges?

It will become obvious if you check the copper list

^^ What Toni said... this is a far simpler effect than you think on Amiga
Take a look at:-

"Join the Power" by TSL

...if you want another example of the same effect in action (there are many dozens more, this is just the first one I found with a quick search!).

Playing around with this method - this comes to mind:
http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=31283

Same thing?

Toni,
I've just recently begun using the uae debugger, quite useful(!). But, what keeps bugging me is the fixed height panes, ever considered adding resize / maximization of them? (I'm on a 16x10 laptop so height is restricted)

I don't use or care about gui debugger (I didn't make it), I only use text based console version ("xx" command line switches between modes), sorry

Yes, but even simpler in that there's no dynamic copperlist for modulo or scrollregister. He just switches buffers to scroll sideways. The buffers have 8 colors that are repeated sideways.

Mahoney & Kaktus pioneered this general type of effect, check Northstar Megademo 2.

Few have true RGB, the DefJam example switches palettes between each character gap. The zoom is achieved by switching modulo to successively wider-scaled predrawn pictures, 1 (or more) lines high.

There are many variants, like Freddy is Back. Even I've made (a silly) one.

Jo Henrik, "Freddy is back" är ett jättefint demo, och Tomas låt kommer fint till pass även om jag är tveksam till om han ens vet att den används i detta demo(?).

Få se din version av effecten då!

(Let's see your version then!)

i remember very well this kind of effect.
A good example in Delirium / FRAXION

Offtopic :
Freddy is back chessboard is marvellous. I think this kind of chessboard was originally code by Ziggy Stardust / OVERLANDERS (atari) in the demo "Delirious Demo from ALLIANCE / Section Overlanders / Ziggy 2"

Well, I like everyone else noticed it was Uncle Tom's tune. I did show or send him the demo back then, but I honestly can't remember if Freddy had contacted him about using his tune or if he hadn't seen the demo before.

Well, an explanation of an effect starting with the phrase "well, it's just ..." is a way to reduce the illusion from magic to something concrete that can be coded. It's not a "that crap is super easy, he just..." and so forth.

Here's a sort of variation of this theme with an RGB font.
