Productivity Amiga Emulator
Hello All!
I am mainly interested in an Amiga emulator that emulates a high end Classic Amiga, running as fast as possible and as compatible as necessary. In an ideal world, the emu specs would look something like this: - 68XXX CPU+FPU does not need to emu a specific model, just the 68K instruction set should be fully covered, JIT as fast as possible, "Native Jump" instruction extention to be able to embed native code - RTG graphics card True color, high resolutions, hardware accelerated 2D, maybe 3D too - AHI audio 16/24bit, recording, whatever the host provides, minimum latency - Emulator ports for Windows, Mac, Linux - Nice symbiosis with the host Could get as extreme as Cygwin or Wine, so you have actual Amiga Windows on your host Desktop, but a re-compilation should be avoided. Mouse Pointer should be tied to the host OS mouse pointer, speed and latency wise Definetly host filesystem for the emulation. Shouldn't mess with the host when installed, "USB Stick" compatible to have your AmigaOS "to go". Questions: 1. Anyone here who shares this interest? All Emulations focus on Custom Chips and games, there is no productivity emu anymore since Amithlon died. 2. How much faster you can get compared to WinUAE with JIT? Amithlon was a bit faster. It gets interesting when you reach a factor of 2 or higher. 3. In order to get such an emulator materialized, where to start? WinUAE, FS-UAE, AROS, Scratch? |

You won't gain any speed, even if you rip out all custom chip stuff because most of it is not doing anything in RTG modes. (Find out what Amithlon JIT did to solve this one, AFAIK it did work quite differently because it didn't need to care about chipset at all)
Fast and compatible: impossible. It takes lots of host CPU cycles to make emulation compatible. But if you don't have custom chipset, you don't need "compatibility" either. Amiga windows on desktop: not going to happen without RTG low level documentation or source code (which does not exist anywhere else than some deep hidden vault). It can only work if it whole ROM is replaced with AROS. |
